1919 Central Michigan Normalites Football Team
The 1919 Central Michigan Normalites football team represented Central Michigan Normal School—later renamed Central Michigan University—as an independent during the 1919 college football season. The Central Michigan football team compiled a 2–2–3 record and was outscored by its opponents by a combined total of 89 to 88. The team's victories were against (7–0) and Bay City Western High School (33–6), he losses were against the Michigan Agricultural freshmen (13–0) and Detroit Junior College (42–13), and the ties were with Saginaw High School (13–13), (7–7), and Michigan State Normal (7–7). Garland Nevitt was hired as the school's head football coach in March 1919. He was an alumnus of Carlisle Indian Industrial School where he played with Jim Thorpe; he had been the football coach at the Mount Pleasant Indian School for three years before being hired by Central Normal. Garland Nevitt
Garland "Chief" Nevitt (February 28, 1887 – August 1970) was an American football, basketball, and baseball coach. He served as the head football coach at Central Michigan University for one season in 1919, compiling a record of 2–2–3. He also coached the basketball team at Central Michigan that year to a 10–5 record. He played Minor League Baseball with the Battle Creek Crickets of the Southern Michigan League from 1911 to 1913 and with the St. Thomas Saints of the Canadian League from 1914 to 1915. Nevitt was a vegetarian and non-smoker. Central Michigan–Eastern Michigan Football Rivalry
The Central Michigan–Eastern Michigan football rivalry is an annual college football game between Central Michigan University (CMU) and Eastern Michigan University (EMU). The football series between the two universities dates back to 1902 and is the oldest rivalry in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), having begun five years before the Central Michigan–Western Michigan rivalry and six years before the Miami–Ohio rivalry. With 100 games having been played, it is also the most frequently-played series between MAC schools. Michigan State Normal, as EMU was then known, dominated the series in the first 25 meetings, compiling a record of 14–8–3 from 1902 to 1936. Old College Field
Old College Field is an area on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. The school broke ground in 1900 to provide a place for the varsity baseball team to play. Today, the area includes facilities for baseball, soccer, and softball. It is located on a floodplain on the inside of a bend in the Red Cedar River. The "New Life for Old College Field" campaign, which began in 2006, was to enhance the sports programs which played on the Field.
