1911 Major League Baseball Season
The 1911 major league baseball season began on April 12, 1911. The regular season ended on October 12, with the New York Giants (baseball), New York Giants and Philadelphia Athletics as the regular season champions of the National League (baseball), National League and American League, respectively. The postseason began with Game 1 of the 1911 World Series, eighth modern World Series on October 14 and ended with Game 6 on October 26. In the second iteration of this World Series matchup, the Athletics defeated the Giants, four games to two, capturing their second championship in franchise history, and the second team to win back-to-back World Series. This was the first of four seasons that the Chalmers Award, a precursor to the Major League Baseball Most Valuable Player Award (introduced in 1931), was given to a player in each league. The American League of Professional Baseball Clubs, known simply as the American League (AL), is the younger of two sports leagues, leagues constituting Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada.
