1909 FHL Season
The 1909 Federal Hockey League (FHL) season was the sixth and final season of the league. The league had four teams participate this season, Cornwall, returning and three new entries, Ottawa Senators, Renfrew Creamery Kings and Smith's Falls. Smith's Falls had previously played in the league. Renfrew was the class of the league, winning all of its games to claim the championship. Season The season started on January 8 with a game between The Seniors and Cornwall. A game arranged for that night between Renfrew and the Senators was postponed, necessitating a new schedule, and the season started in full gear on January 15, with the Senators visiting The Seniors. Cornwall had difficulty fielding a competitive team, signing junior-age players for several games. Federal Amateur Hockey League
The Federal Amateur Hockey League (FAHL) was a Canadians, Canadian men's Senior ice hockey, senior-level ice hockey league that played six seasons, from 1904 to 1909. The league was formed initially to provide a league for teams not accepted by the rival Canadian Amateur Hockey League (CAHL). The FAHL's membership changed in each of its six seasons of operation. During the FAHL's inaugural 1904 FAHL season, 1904 season, the Montreal Le National became the first francophone ice hockey team to play in a league with anglophone clubs. The 1906-07 FAHL season, 1906-07 season ended early due to an on-ice death, and the 1908 FHL season, 1907 schedule was suspended mid-season. Eastern Canada Hockey Association
The Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association (ECAHA) was a men's amateur – later professional – ice hockey league in Canada that played four seasons. It was founded on December 11, 1905 with the top clubs from two other leagues: four from the Canadian Amateur Hockey League (CAHL) and two from the Federal Amateur Hockey League (FAHL). It was formed to maximize the revenues of a now popular spectator sport and help these amateur teams cope with professionalism in the sport. The 1909 ECHA season was the fourth and final season of the Eastern Canada Hockey Association (ECHA). Teams played a twelve-game schedule. Patrick John McDonald (February 28, 1887 – January 24, 1958) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played from 1905 until 1922, including eleven seasons in the National Hockey Association/National Hockey League for the Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Wanderers, Quebec Bulldogs, Toronto Ontarios and Toronto St. Patricks. He was a member of the 1912 Quebec Bulldogs Stanley Cup championship team, playing eleven seasons for the Bulldogs in the period from 1905–06 until 1919–20. Playing career Born in Quebec City, Quebec, McDonald played intermediate hockey for the Quebec Crescents in 1905–06, moving to the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association's Quebec Bulldogs for three games. Didier Pitre
Joseph George Didier "Cannonball" Pitre (September 1, 1883 – July 29, 1934) was a Canadians, Canadian professional ice hockey player. Nicknamed "Cannonball," he was renowned for having one of the hardest shots during his playing career. One of the first players to join the Montreal Canadiens, Pitre and his teammates' French-Canadian heritage led to the team being nicknamed ''The Flying Frenchmen''. His teammates on the Canadiens included Jack Laviolette and Newsy Lalonde. Though he spent the latter part of his career almost exclusively with the Canadiens, Pitre played for several other teams in various leagues early on, including the International Professional Hockey League, the first professional hockey league, and the Pacific Coast Hockey Association. Bert Lindsay
Leslie Bertrand Lindsay (July 23, 1881 – November 11, 1960) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender in the National Hockey Association (NHA), Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA), and National Hockey League (NHL). Born in West Garafraxa, Ontario, Bert Lindsay was the father of Hockey Hall of Fame player Ted Lindsay. Playing career Between 1903 and 1909 Lindsay played amateur hockey for many different teams, most notably with Renfrew in the Ottawa Valley Hockey League and the Federal Amateur Hockey League, and in 1907 and 1908 he won two consecutive Citizen Shield as Ottawa Valley champions with Renfrew. The Ottawa Senators were an ice hockey team based in Ottawa, which existed from 1883 to 1954. The club was the first hockey club in Ontario, a founding member of the National Hockey League (NHL) and played in the NHL from 1917 until 1934. The club, which was officially the Ottawa Hockey Club (Ottawa HC), was known by several nicknames, including the ''Generals'' in the 1890s, the ''Silver Seven'' from 1903 to 1907 and the ''Senators'' dating from 1908.The first mention of 'Senators' as a nickname was in 1901, in the ''Ottawa Journal.''
