1907–08 Lancashire Cup
The 1907–08 Lancashire Cup was the third year for this regional rugby league competition and saw its third different winner. The cup was won by Oldham, who beat the previous year's winners, Broughton Rangers, at The Athletic Grounds, Rochdale by a score of 16–9. The attendance for the final was 14,000 and receipts £340. The venue was the third different venue used in the three years which the competition had run. The Swinton Lions are a professional rugby league club based in Swinton, Greater Manchester, England, which competes in the RFL League 1 . The club has won the Rugby Football League Championship, Championship six times and three Challenge Cups. Before 1996, the club was known simply as Swinton RLFC. Rugby League County Cups
Historically, English rugby league clubs competed for the Lancashire Cup and the Yorkshire Cup, known collectively as the county cups. The leading rugby clubs in Yorkshire had played in a cup competition (affectionately known as ''t’owd tin pot'') for several years prior to the schism of 1895. However, the Lancashire authorities had refused to sanction a similar tournament, fearing it would lead to professionalism. After the split, the replacement for the Yorkshire Cup was not immediately introduced; however, new Yorkshire and Lancashire Cups were introduced in the 1905–06 season. The county cups were played on the same basis as the Challenge Cup, with an open draw and straight knock-out matches leading to a final. 1907–08 Northern Rugby Football Union Season
The 1907–08 Northern Rugby Football Union season was the 13th season of rugby league football. Season summary League Champions were Hunslet who beat Oldham 12-2 in a replay after a 7-7 draw. It was the first time a team that did not finish top of the league won the Championship. Challenge Cup Winners were Hunslet who defeated Hull F.C. 14-0. Liverpool City were replaced by the two Welsh clubs, Merthyr Tydfil and Ebbw Vale, taking the competition to 27 clubs. Bradford switched to association football and were replaced by Bradford Northern. Oldham won the Lancashire League, and Hunslet won the Yorkshire League. Hunslet won All Four Cups available to them; Challenge Cup, Rugby Football League Championship, Yorkshire league, and Yorkshire Cup. New Zealand toured England this season. The Halton Stadium (currently known as the DCBL Stadium for sponsorship reasons) is a multi-purpose rugby league, association football, football and American football stadium in Widnes, Cheshire, England. The Willows, Salford
The Willows was a rugby league stadium in Weaste, City of Salford, Salford, England. It had a final capacity of 11,363 with 2,500 seats. History In 1900, Salford agreed a 14-year lease on of land belonging to the Willows Estate Company, named after the abundance of willow trees in the area. They made their debut at the Willows on 21 December 1901, beating Swinton Lions, Swinton 2–0 in front of 16,981 fans. In the 1960s, the terrace was flattened at the Willows Road end to make way for the Salford Football and Social Club which was officially opened on 16 June 1966. Hilton Park (stadium)
Hilton Park was a multi-purpose stadium in Leigh, Greater Manchester, England. It was the home of Leigh RLFC rugby league club and Leigh Genesis football club. It had a capacity of approximately 10,000. The stadium was demolished in February 2009.
