1907 Major League Baseball Season
The 1907 major league baseball season began on April 11, 1907. The regular season ended on October 6, with the Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers as regular season champions of the National League and American League, respectively. The postseason began with Game 1 of the fourth modern World Series on October 8 and ended with Game 5 on October 12. The Cubs defeated the Tigers, four games to none (with one tie), capturing their first championship in franchise history. Going into the season, the defending World Series champions were the Chicago White Sox from the season. The Philadelphia Phillies set a Major League record for the fewest at bats by a team in a season—4,725. to October 8, 1907. The Boston Beaneaters renamed as the Boston Doves. The American League of Professional Baseball Clubs, known simply as the American League (AL), is the younger of two sports leagues, leagues constituting Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada. Bennett Park (Detroit)
Bennett Park was a ballpark in Detroit. Located at Michigan and Trumbull Avenues, it was home to the Detroit Tigers and was named after Charlie Bennett, a former player whose career ended after a train accident in 1894. The Tigers began play at Bennett Park in the minor Western League (original), Western League with a 17–2 win over the Columbus Senators on April 28, 1896. League Park was a baseball park located in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. South Side Park was the name used for three different baseball parks that formerly stood in Chicago, Illinois, at different times, and whose sites were all just a few blocks away from each other. South Side Park I (1884) The first South Side Park was the home of the short-lived Chicago Browns entry in the Union Association of 1884. The venue was also called Union Base Ball Park and 39th Street Grounds in local newspapers. Indications are that the ballpark was on a block bounded by 39th Street (south); South Wabash Avenue (west); 38th Street (north); and South Michigan Avenue (east).
