The 1907 AAA Championships was the 1907 edition of the annual outdoor track and field competition organised by the Amateur Athletic Association (AAA). Fallowfield Stadium
Fallowfield Stadium was an athletics stadium and velodrome in Fallowfield, Manchester, England. It opened in May 1892 as the home of Manchester Athletics Club after it was forced to move from its home next to Old Trafford Cricket Ground. Fallowfield was most regularly used for cycling by the Manchester Wheelers' Club, who held their annual competition there until 1976. The stadium came to national attention on 26 March 1893 during the FA Cup final between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton which Wolverhampton Wanderers won 1–0. With a capacity of 15,000 the attendance of 45,000 meant the majority of spectators had no view of the match. The stadium hosted the second 1899 FA Cup semi-final replay between Sheffield United and Liverpool, the match had to be abandoned due to a crush in the crowd. Charles Christie Davies (28 September 1881 – 13 August 1964) was a British sprint athlete. He competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. Alexander Duncan (24 February 1884 – 21 January 1959) was a British long-distance runner and competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics. He was considered among the fastest long distance runners in the world. Biography Duncan belonged to the Kendal Welcome Harrier Club. Duncan won the English Open Mile in 1902 and came third in the English Half-Mile. He also won the Salford Harrier's sports and Preston Guild mile in 1902. In 1903, he won the Mile at New Brighton and the Two Miles Handicap at Stanley Park in Liverpool. He then picked up more victories in Barrow, Dalton-in-Furness, Darlington, Jendal, Glasgow, and Leeds. Duncan won the British Northern Counties 4 miles race in 1906. John William Lee (13 January 1881 – 22 August 1960) was a British athlete. He competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. Biography Also known as Jack Lee, he was affiliated with Heaton Harriers, a Newcastle upon Tyne-based club, although he started his career with West Hartlepool Harriers. He twice finished third behind George Butterfield in the 1 mile event at the 1906 AAA Championships and 1907 AAA Championships. Lee represented Great Britain at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. In the 800 metres, Lee finished second in his semifinal heat and did not advance to the final. His time was 2:01.7, only .3 seconds behind John Halstead's winning time. Joseph Edmund Deakin (6 February 1879 – 30 June 1972) was a British athlete who competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. Biography Deakin served with the Rifle Brigade and fought in the Boer War. During this time, he set South African records at both the 880 yards and 1 mile. While posted to Ireland, he ran with Clonliffe Harriers and won the Irish 1 mile and 4 mile titles in 1901. Returning to England, he joined Herne Hill Harriers in 1903 and soon established a reputation as one of the country's finest cross-country runners, winning an individual bronze (1905) and team gold medals (1905, 1906 and 1908) at the International Cross Country Championships. George Butterfield (April 1879 – 24 September 1917) was a British Athletics (sport), athlete running for Darlington Harriers. He ran the world's fastest mile in 1906 and competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. Biography Born in Stockton on Tees, Butterfield became the List of British champions in 1500 metres, National mile champion after winning the AAA Championships title at the 1905 AAA Championships.
