Henry Roberts (governor)
Henry Roberts (January 22, 1853 – May 1, 1929) was an American politician who was the 61st Governor of Connecticut. Early life Roberts was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 22, 1853, son of George Roberts and Elvira Evans Roberts. He studied at Yale University, where he was on the fourth editorial board of '' The Yale Record''. After graduating from Yale in 1878, he studied one year at Columbia University and in 1879, he was awarded a law degree from Yale Law School. Career After completing his education, Roberts practiced law for several years, then entered his father's manufacturing business, the Hartford Woven Wire Mattress Company, and served as company's president from 1886 to 1907. He was also involved in several other business activities. Roberts became alderman of Hartford, Connecticut in 1897. He became a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1899. Connecticut Gubernatorial Elections
Connecticut () is the southernmost state in the New England region of the Northeastern United States. It is bordered by Rhode Island to the east, Massachusetts to the north, New York to the west, and Long Island Sound to the south. Its capital is Hartford and its most populous city is Bridgeport. United States gubernatorial elections were held in 1906, in 28 states, concurrent with the House and Senate elections, on November 6, 1906 (except in Arkansas, Georgia, Maine, Oregon and Vermont, which held early elections). In Iowa, the gubernatorial election was held in an even-numbered year for the first time, having previously been held in odd-numbered years. The previous election in this state took place in 1903. In Oregon, the gubernatorial election was held in June for the last time, moving to the same day as federal elections from the 1910 elections.
