The 1898 USFSA Football Championship was the 5th staging of the USFSA Football Championship. It was played on neutral grounds, in a league system with Standard Athletic Club being proclaimed champions of France after beating Club Français 3–2 in a play-off title-decider, since they had finished level on 18 points. The Standard Athletic Club is a British social club in Paris, created on 1 March 1890, as the first football clubs in France. The Standard Athletic Club won the first French football championship in 1894, and then again in 1895, 1897, 1898 and 1901. It also represented France for the one and only Cricket match in the 1900 Olympics. The 1899 USFSA Football Championship was the 6th staging of the USFSA Football Championship. The Parisian clubs do not participate, arguing that Le Havre AC had not been crowned champion of its region. But still, Havre played and after beating Iris Club Lillois in the semi-finals they were proclaimed champions as Club français, a club from Paris refused to play the final. During the 1890s and early 1900s it organised numerous sports including athletics, cycling, field hockey, fencing, croquet, and swimming. However it is perhaps best known for being the principal governing body of both football and rugby union until it was effectively replaced by the French Football Federation and the French Rugby Federation. The USFSA rejected any form of professionalism and were strong advocates of amateur sport. The White Rovers
The White Rovers, also known as White Rovers Paris, was a French amateur football club based in Paris which existed between 1891 and 1899. The club was founded in 1891 by Englishman Jack Wood, who had formerly played football in his home country. White Rovers primarily utilized Anglo-American football players, but was open to all nationalities. The club hosted its football matches on land opposite the commune of Bécon-les-Bruyères and later played matches in Bois de Vincennes. White Rovers is best remembered for its pioneering role in the amateur beginnings of football in France, being one of the six football clubs that participated in France's first-ever football championship in 1894.
