Texas Christian University
Texas Christian University (TCU) is a private research university in Fort Worth, Texas. It was established in 1873 by brothers Addison and Randolph Clark as the Add-Ran Male & Female College. It is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The campus is located on about 3 miles (5 km) from downtown Fort Worth. TCU is affiliated with, but not governed by, the Disciples of Christ. The university consists of eight constituent colleges and schools and has a classical liberal arts curriculum. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity". TCU's mascot is Superfrog, based on the Texas state reptile; the horned frog. 1896 College Football Season
The 1896 college football season had no clear-cut champion, with the ''Official NCAA Division I Football Records Book'' listing Lafayette and Princeton as having been selected national champions. Lafayette finished with an 11–0–1 record while Princeton had a 10–0–1 record. In the second game of the season for both teams, Lafayette and Princeton played to a scoreless tie. Both teams had signature wins: Lafayette defeated Penn 6–4, giving the Quakers their only loss of the season, while Princeton defeated previously unbeaten Yale, 24–6, on Thanksgiving Day in the last game of the season. Princeton was retroactively named the 1896 national champions by the Billingsley Report, the Helms Athletic Foundation, the Houlgate System, and Lafayette and Princeton were named national co-champions by the National Championship Foundation and Parke Davis. TCU Horned Frogs Football Seasons
The TCU Horned Frogs are an intercollegiate football team representing Texas Christian University (TCU) in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Horned Frogs have competed as a member of the Big 12 Conference since the 2012 college football season. TCU began playing football in 1896 and has played their home games since 1930 at Amon G. Carter Stadium on the TCU campus.
