1890 Ontario General Election
The 1890 Ontario general election was the seventh general election held in the province of Ontario, Canada. It was held on June 5, 1890, to elect the 91 members of the 7th Legislative Assembly of Ontario ("MLAs"). The Assembly had been increased from 90 members after the passage of an Act in 1889 creating Nipissing as a riding. The election was a victory for the Ontario Liberal Party, led by Oliver Mowat. The party won a sixth consecutive term in government, despite losing a small number of seats in the Legislature. The Ontario Conservative Party, led by William Ralph Meredith won two additional seats. This election was held partially using the Limited voting system where each Toronto voter had two votes for the three MPPs in the district. This produced mixed representation in that district and thus a degree of minority representation. Addington was a provincial electoral riding in Ontario, Canada. It was created in 1867 at the time of confederation and was abolished in 1954 before the 1955 election. John Barr (Canadian Politician)
John Barr (March 4, 1843 – November 19, 1909) was an Ontario-based Canadian physician and political figure. He represented Dufferin in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1875 to 1879, from 1890 to 1894 and from 1898 to 1904 and in the House of Commons of Canada from 1904 to 1909 as a Conservative member. From 1890 to 1894, he was a member of the provincial Conservative Equal Rights Party. He was born near Elizabethtown (later Brockville) in Canada West in 1843, the son of Irish immigrants. Carleton (Ontario Provincial Electoral District)
Carleton is a provincial riding in Ontario, Canada. It was created in 1867 at the time of confederation and lasted until provincial redistribution in 1996. In the 1999 provincial election it was redistributed into Nepean—Carleton and Lanark—Carleton. In 2007 it was abolished into Carleton—Mississippi Mills and Lanark—Frontenac—Lennox and Addington. In 2018 it was re-created as the riding of Carleton from parts of Nepean—Carleton, Carleton—Mississippi Mills and Ottawa South. William Henry Hammell
William Henry Hammell (December 22, 1845 – June 19, 1937) was an Ontario farmer and political figure. He represented Cardwell in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1883 to 1894 as a Conservative member.
