1889 Missile Regiment (India)
1889 Missile Regiment (Kargil) is a missile equipped regiment, which is part of the Regiment of Artillery of the Indian Army. History The regiment was raised as 1889 (Independent) Light Battery in 1976. It was converted to a light regiment and is now a missile regiment. Operations *Operation Rakshak – Counter insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir. *Kargil War – The regiment was equipped with 120 mm Brandt mortars and was de-inducted from the Kashmir valley along with 8 Mountain Artillery Brigade for Operation Vijay on 3 June 1999. It saw action during the Kargil war and was awarded the honour title ''Kargil''. The unit provided Artillery Observation Posts (OP) and fire plans during the Battle of Tololing. It provided OP in the Battle of Point 5140 and for attack on Black Rock. During the Battle of Point 4700, the regiment deployed its mortars right under the nose of the enemy. Battle Of Tololing
The Battle of Tololing was a pivotal battle in the Kargil War between India and troops from one full battalion of Pakistan’s Northern Light Infantry who were aided by Pakistani irregulars in 1999. Background The Tololing peak dominates over the Srinagar-Leh Highway ( NH 1D), which is a vital link. Peaks in Tololing include Point 5140 and Point 4875, 4590. Battle Units under the command of Maj Gen Mohinder Puri of the 8 Mountain Division were tasked with recapturing the positions held by the infiltrators. The battle lasted 32 days. Initially only units from the 121 Independent Infantry brigade under the command of Brig. O.P. Nandrajog was sent to evict the intruders. Delhi Republic Day Parade
The Delhi Republic Day parade is the largest and most important of the parades marking the Republic Day (India), Republic Day celebrations in India. The parade takes place every year on 26 January at Rajpath, Kartavya Path, New Delhi. It is the main attraction of India's Republic Day celebrations, which last for three days. Sena Medal
The Sena Medal () is awarded to members of the Indian army, of all ranks, "for such individual acts of exceptional devotion to duty or courage as have special significance for the Army." Awards may be made posthumously and a bar is authorized for subsequent awards of the Sena Medal. It can be awarded for gallantry or it can also be for distinguished service carried out by any soldier, not in the face of the enemy. Therefore, the Sena Medal also serves as a sort of general commendation medal for the Indian Army. From 1 February 1999, the central government set a monthly stipend of Rs. 250 for recipients of the award when it is awarded for bravery. It has since been revised to Rs. 2000. Battle Of Tiger Hill
The Battle of Tiger Hill encompasses the battles fought in and around the peak of Tiger Hill between the Indian Army and Pakistani Army from the final week of May till second week of June 1999, during the Kargil War. The battle, with the concomitant battle for the adjoining peak of Tololing, culminated in Indian forces capturing Tiger Hill (Point 5060). The Tiger Hill area, including Point 5100, is to the west of Tololing. Peaks in Tololing include Point 5140 and Point 4875 and others. Battle Tiger Hill was held by elements of the Pakistan Army's Northern Light Infantry. An artillery observer, artillery spotter, or forward observer (FO) is a soldier responsible for directing artillery and mortar fire support onto a target. An artillery observer usually accompanies a tank or infantry unit. Spotters ensure that indirect fire hits targets which those at a fire support base cannot see.
