Mursmäcka
Mursmäcka, also called or only , was an historical profession for women in Sweden. A mursmäcka was a female construction worker with the task of handing Mortar (masonry), mortar during construction work. The profession is recorded from at least 1691 (though it is not confirmed by name until the 1830s) and discontinued in 1922. This was a very hard but common job for a poor uneducated woman during the 19th century, particularly in Stockholm. In July 1888, the Mursmäcka of Stockholm performed a great strike action which attracted considerable attention in contemporary Sweden. History It is unknown when the profession was first practiced. Elsa Brändström
Elsa Brändström (26 March 1888 – 4 March 1948) was a Swedish nurse and philanthropist. She was known as the "Angel of Siberia" (). Life and commitment Elsa Brändström was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia. She was the daughter of the Military Attaché at the Swedish Embassy, Edvard Brändström (1850–1921) and his wife Anna Wilhelmina Eschelsson (1855–1913). In 1891, when she was three years old, the family returned to Sweden. In 1906, Brändström, now a general, became the Swedish Ambassador at the court of Tsar Nicholas II and returned to Saint Petersburg. Elsa spent her childhood in Linköping in Sweden. From 1906 to 1908, she studied at Anna Sandström Teachers Training College (''Anna Sandströms högre lärarinneseminarium'') in Stockholm but returned to St. Petersburg in 1908. Prince Oscar Carl August Bernadotte, Count of Wisborg (15 November 1859 – 4 October 1953) was a Swedish religious activist, the second son of King Oscar II of Sweden and his consort, Sofia of Nassau. Born as a Prince of Sweden and Norway, he was known as Prince Oscar, Duke of Gotland. Hildur Charlotta "Hjördis" Levin (; born 4 June 1930) is a Swedish historian and author whose field of research focuses on gender studies. Early years and education Hildur Charlotta Eriksson was born in Smedby, Östergötland County on 4 June 1930.
