Kings was a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada that, at the time of its dissolution, elected two members to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. It existed from 1867 until 1956, when Kings County was divided into the three electoral districts of Kings North, Kings South and Kings West. James Wilberforce Longley
James Wilberforce Longley (4 January 1849 – 16 March 1922) was a Canadian journalist, lawyer, politician, and judge. Born in Paradise, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, the son of Israel Longley and Frances Manning, Longley received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1871 and a Master of Arts degree in 1877 from Acadia College. In 1871, he moved to Halifax and studied law with Hiram Blanchard. He was called to the Bar in 1875 and practiced law in Halifax from 1875 to 1882. He was also a journalist working for the ''Acadian Recorder''. In 1887, he was appointed managing editor of the ''Halifax Morning Chronicle''. In 1882, he was elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly for the electoral district of Annapolis County. Annapolis (provincial Electoral District)
Annapolis is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The district was created in 1867 and was abolished in 1953 when it was re-distributed into Annapolis East and Annapolis West. The district was re-formed in 1993 and its boundaries were changed following the 2012 electoral reform commission to include the portion of Digby-Annapolis within Annapolis County north of Maitland Bridge. The district includes the entirety of Annapolis County including the municipalities of Annapolis Royal and Middleton. Since 2021, the district has been represented by Carman Kerr. John Archibald McDonald (Nova Scotia Politician)
John Archibald McDonald (February 25, 1851 – February 17, 1925) was a lawyer and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Victoria County in the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly as a Conservative from 1882 to 1886, and Victoria in the House of Commons of Canada from 1887 to 1896. Although a Conservative, he ran as a Liberal in a November 1887 by-election resulting from his election at the general election the previous March having been declared void, and thus sat as such from November 1887 to March 1891. He was born in North East Margaree, Nova Scotia, the son of Laughlin McDonald, a Scottish immigrant. He was educated at the Horton Academy and then Acadia College. McDonald was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 1877. In 1885, he married Katie Jeannette Hume. William Blair (Nova Scotia Politician)
William M. Blair (May 25, 1836 – June 17, 1919) was a farmer and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Colchester County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1878 to 1886 as a Liberal-Conservative member. He was born in Onslow, Nova Scotia and educated there. In 1864, he married Harriet Blair. He was lieutenant-colonel in the militia, commanding a Highlanders battalion from Pictou, Hants and Colchester. Blair was an ardent promoter of modern farming, and was deeply involved in agricultural reform efforts in Nova Scotia. He was president of the Onslow Agricultural Society and chairman of the Agricultural Exhibition Committee, was a prominent member of the Nova Scotia Farmers' Association from its inception in 1895 until his death, and participated in lobbying the provincial government for the creation of a provincial School of Agriculture in 1885 (which became the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 1905). William Thomas Pipes
William Thomas Pipes (April 15, 1850 – October 7, 1909) was a politician in Nova Scotia, Canada. Biography Pipes was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia. He ran in the 1878 federal election against Charles Tupper, but was unable to wrest away Tupper's seat in the House of Commons of Canada. In 1882, Pipes ran as a Liberal candidate in the provincial election and won a seat. The Liberals unexpectedly won the most seats in the legislature despite the fact that they had no leader. William S. Fielding was at the time editor of the Halifax ''Morning Chronicle'' and could have become premier, but declined due to his lack of financial resources. The caucus selected Pipes to lead the party and become the sixth Premier. The position was an unpaid one at the time, so Pipes had to continue his law practice.
