Ville Jais Nielsen
Vilhelmine "Ville" Jais Nielsen (née Oppenheim; 1 May 1886 – 7 November 1949) was a Danish painter and sculptor. She is remembered for the many portraits of women she painted while in Sweden during the Second World War, marked by strong brushstrokes and sensitive lighting effects. Her husband was the artist Jais Nielsen. Early life and family She was born in Randers, the daughter of the merchant Carl Oppenheim and Jeanette Cohn. Her training included the Art School for Women (1905–07); work for Mogens Ballin; an apprenticeship with the silversmith Georg Jensen (1909); and porcelain painting at Bing & Grøndahl (1910–12). Johan Nicolai Madvig
Johan Nicolai Madvig (; 7 August 1804 – 12 December 1886), was a Danish philologist and Kultus Minister. Life He was born on the Danish island of Bornholm, south of Sweden. He was educated at the classical school of Frederiksborg and the University of Copenhagen, at least partially on the cost of Marie Kofoed. In 1828 he became reader, and in 1829 professor of Latin language and literature at Copenhagen, and in 1832 was appointed university librarian. In 1848 Madvig entered parliament as a member of the "Eider-Danish" part—those who desired the Eider to be the boundary of the country. When this party came into power Madvig became Kultus Minister in the Cabinet of Moltke II and III, but left the cabinet on 7 December 1851 as a protest against the government's unity state program. Christian August Broberg
Christian August Broberg (3 April 1811 – 30 April 1886) was a Danish merchant, ship owner and politician. His company, C. Broberg & Søn, founded by his father in 1805, was the largest importer of coffee to the Nordic countries in the 1860s and early 1870s but collapsed during the coffee crisis of 1874 as a result of high-risk, speculative transactions undertaken by his son. Early life and education Broberg was born in Copenhagen, the son of merchant and ship-owner Christian Mortensen Broberg (1776–1852) and Anna Cosine Edsleff (1774–1851). He became an apprentice in his father's office from 1828 and then continued his education abroad. He came to Messina in 1832 where he worked for Ferd. Baller & Co. and became a partner. Gustav Weinreich
Gustav Alfred Emil Weinreich (1886–1980) was a Danish woodcarver and furniture maker in Copenhagen, and a leader in the craftsmans' guilds of his day. Family life Weinreich was born in Copenhagen on 12 October 1886, the second child of Ferdinand Emil Weinreich and Vilhelmine Frederikke Bolette Sivertsen (1852–1893). Both his older sister Amanda and younger sister Valborg emigrated to the United States, but Gustav remained in Denmark working with his father as a craftsman. Gustav married Hertha Athalia Jørgensen in 1909 and they had 3 children together: Benny Emil, Edith Kate, and Willie Marquard. His daughter Edith Kate, an architect, eventually married Ole Wanscher, a noted Danish furniture designer and author. Weinreich later married secondly Merry Mignon Petersson, and they had two children together: Kirsten Anelise Edith and Bjorn Allen Benny. Kay Bojesen
Kay Bojesen (15 August 1886 – 28 August 1958) was a Danish silversmith and designer. He is best known for creating wooden animals, especially his wooden monkey which was exhibited at the Victoria and Albert museum in London in the nineteen-fifties, and which today is considered a design classic. Early life and education Bojesen was born on 15 August 1886 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He first trained to be a grocer, but in 1906 began working for Danish silversmith Georg Jensen. The Danish Museum of Art & Design describes his early work as being in an Art Nouveau style, likely due to Jensen's influence. Career In 1922, Bojesen began designing wooden toys, typically about six to ten inches tall, with moveable limbs.
