Harald Adolf Nikolaj Jerichau (18 August 1851 – 6 March 1878) was a Danish landscape painter. Biography Jerichau was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. His father was the sculptor, Jens Adolf Jerichau, and his mother was the painter, Elisabeth Jerichau-Baumann. His younger brother, Holger H. Jerichau, also became a painter, while his older brother, Thorald Jerichau, was a composer. He received his first formal drawing lessons from the architect C. V. Nielsen, then studied perspective at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1868. Later, he received lessons from Frederik Christian Lund and Eiler Rasmussen Eilersen. Jerichau first exhibited in Copenhagen in 1873. This was followed by a trip to Italy with his mother. In Rome, he was a pupil of Jean-Achille Benouville, who at that time, was director of the French Academy. Thomas Madsen-Mygdal (24 December 1876 – 23 February 1943) was a Danish politician from Venstre who served as Prime Minister of Denmark from 1926 to 1929. He was also Minister for Agriculture from 1920 to 1924 and again while concurrently being prime minister. Early life and education Madsen-Mygdal was born in Mygdal, Vendsyssel, the son of landstingsmand, statsrevisor N.P. Madsen-Mygdal (1835-1913) and Ane Kirstine Jacobsen (1839–1902). He became a teacher from Jelling Seminarium but later studied agriculture. Political career Thomas Madsen-Mygdal was a self-taught farmer, and was also Minister of Agriculture while he was Prime Minister, as he had also been in the Cabinet of Neergaard. Povl Erik Raimund Baumann (9 November 1878 – 3 July 1963) was a Danish architect who was a central figure during the transition from Neoclassicism to Functionalism in Danish residential architecture. In 1910, he was one of the founders of ''Den frie Architektforening'', an alternative architects' association, and headed it for the nine years it existed. Early life and education Baumann was born on 9 November 1878 in Copenhagen, the son of translator Heinrich Johann Raimund Baumann and Julie Augusta née Riise. He first enrolled at the College of Advanced Technology to become a building engineer but in 1888 discontinued his studies after just three semesters. Instead he took classes at a technical school from 1899 to 1901 while at the same time apprenticing as a mason. Holger Thiele (September 25, 1878 – June 5, 1946) was a Danish American astronomer and discoverer of minor planets and comets. He was the son of Thorvald Nicolai Thiele (1838–1910), the noted Danish astronomer, actuary and mathematician, after whom the main-belt asteroid 1586 Thiele is named. Holger Thiele is credited by the Minor Planet Center with the discovery of 4 numbered asteroids during 1914–1916. He also discovered the comet C/1906 V1 and calculated the orbits of other comets. He worked at Hamburg-Bergedorf Observatory at Bergedorf, in Hamburg, Germany. In 1912, he immigrated to the United States. In 1917, he started working as a fellow for the University of California at Lick Observatory, near San Jose, California.
