Frederick IV ( Danish: ''Frederik''; 11 October 1671 – 12 October 1730) was King of Denmark and Norway from 1699 until his death. Frederick was the son of Christian V of Denmark-Norway and his wife Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel. Early life Frederick was born on 11 October 1671 at Copenhagen Castle as the eldest son of King Christian V and his spouse Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel. The newborn prince was baptized the same evening with the name Frederick by the royal confessional Hans Leth. His grandfather King Frederick III had died a year and a half before he was born, and as the eldest son of the ruling king he was thus crown prince from birth. At the age of 18, he was given a seat on the Council of State as the heir apparent to the throne. Christian Christophersen Sehested
Christian Christophersen Sehested (22 Febr. 1666 – 19 July 1740) was a Danish noble and statesman. Biography He was the son of Christoffer Clausen Sehestedt til Nislevgaard paa Fyn (d. 1699). After the death of his father, he inherited the Nislevgaard manor. In 1701 he was married to Charlotte Amalie Gersdorff (b. 1685 d. 1751). Through the marriage, he came to possess Ravnholt manor. His marriage was childless. He became a nobleman '' Hofjunker'' in 1687. In 1694, he was Deputy in the Land and the Applicant's Commission. In 1698 he obtained the State Council title was sent to Stockholm as to replace Jens Juel (1631 –1700). He was called in 1700 to become Foreign Minister. He was the second Grand Chancellor of Denmark from 1708 to 1721. He was preceded by Conrad von Reventlow (1644–1708) and succeeded by Ulrik Adolf Holstein (1664–1737). Treaty Of Copenhagen (1709)
On 22 October 1709, during the Great Northern War, the alliance between the Russian Empire and Denmark-Norway was renewed in the Treaty of Copenhagen. Charles XII of Sweden had destroyed the previous alliance in Travendal (1700). For Russia, Vasily Lukich Dolgorukov signed the treaty in Copenhagen. Peace Of Travendal
The Peace of Travendal was a peace treaty concluded at the outset of the Great Northern War on 18 August 1700 between the Swedish Empire, Denmark–Norway and Holstein-Gottorp in Traventhal.Weigley (2004), p.108 Denmark had to return Holstein-Gottorp to its duke, a Swedish ally, and to leave the anti-Swedish alliance. The Danes only reentered the war after Sweden's major defeat in the Battle of Poltava, 1709, having used the time to reform their army. The treaty was guaranteed by France, the Holy Roman Empire, the United Provinces (Netherlands) and Great Britain. Great Northern War
The Great Northern War (1700–1721) was a conflict in which a coalition led by the Tsardom of Russia successfully contested the supremacy of the Swedish Empire in Northern, Central and Eastern Europe. The initial leaders of the anti-Swedish alliance were Peter I of Russia, Frederick IV of Denmark–Norway and Augustus II the Strong of Saxony– Poland–Lithuania. Frederick IV and Augustus II were defeated by Sweden, under Charles XII, and forced out of the alliance in 1700 and 1706 respectively, but rejoined it in 1709 after the defeat of Charles XII at the Battle of Poltava. George I of Great Britain and the Electorate of Hanover joined the coalition in 1714 for Hanover and in 1717 for Britain, and Frederick William I of Brandenburg-Prussia joined it in 1715. Ludvig Harboe
Ludvig Harboe (16 August 1709 – 15 June 1783) was a Danish theologian and bishop of the Diocese of Zealand from 1757 until his death. Harboe was born at Broager Peninsula in Sønderborg, Denmark. He was mostly educated in Germany. He attended gymnasium in Hamburg, where he stayed for two years. Then he studied at the universities of Rostock, Wittenberg and Jena returning home to Broager during 1732. In 1738, Harboe was a priest at Garnisonskirken and in 1739 became a priest at Kastelskirken, both churches in Copenhagen. Harboe was sent to Iceland in 1741 to inspect the state of the church there on behalf of the Church of Denmark. He initiated some reforms there and while there (in 1743) was appointed to the post of Bishop of the Diocese of Trondhjem. After returning to Copenhagen in 1745, he was consecrated as Bishop and soon left for Trondheim, the seat of his new diocese. Vibeke Jensdatter
Vibeke Jensdatter (17 October 1638 – 17 October 1709) was a Danish merchant and land owner. She was one of the most successful business people of her country. She was the daughter of city manager Jens Nielsen (died 1659) and Maren Jensdatter. She was married in 1656 to city manager and merchant Laurids Christensen Friis (1619–1659) of Ribe. She was widowed in 1659 and became one of four of her gender to have managed an export business from Ribe. She was the 4th biggest house owner in Ribe and retired in 1664 after having created a fortune. In 1678 she started business as a landowner. In 1686 she acquired the Vardho estate after having placed its former owner, Vibeke Pallesdatter Rosenkrantz (died in 1708) in prison because of debts.
