163rd Virginia General Assembly
The 163rd Virginia General Assembly, consisting of members who were elected in both the 2023 Virginia House of Delegates election, House and 2023 Virginia Senate election, Senate elections in 2023, convened on January 10, 2024. Both elections were the first to be held under maps for both houses of the Virginia General Assembly which were approved by the Virginia Redistricting Commission and the Supreme Court of Virginia in 2021, which were the first in Virginia history to not be drawn and approved by the legislature. Both elections resulted in Democrats winning majorities in both houses for the first time since 2021, with one-seat majorities in both chambers; it was the first time that Democrats won both houses of the legislature against an incumbent Republican governor since 1995. Amanda E. Batten (born 1979) is an American politician and member of the Republican Party. In 2019 she was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates. Jeremy McPike
Jeremy Scott McPike (born September 19, 1975) is an American politician from Virginia. A member of the Democratic Party, McPike is the member of the Virginia Senate, who has represented the 29th district since the 2015 election. Jeremy McPike has spent his life in Prince William County, attending Elizabeth Vaughan Elementary, Fred Lynn Middle and graduating from Gar-Field High School. McPike attended George Mason University for his Bachelor's and Master's of Public Administration degrees. He supported himself by working as a construction laborer and superintendent. Adam Ebbin
Adam Paul Ebbin (born November 10, 1963) is an American politician who is the senator from the 39th District of the Virginia Senate since January 2024. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously represented the 30th Senate District from 2012 to 2024 and served in the Virginia House of Delegates from the 49th District from 2004 to 2012. As an openly gay man, Ebbin has made history several times through his electoral success. Lillie Louise Lucas ( Boone; born January 22, 1944) is an American politician serving as a Virginia state senator, representing the 18th District in the southeast region of the state since 1992. Ghazala Firdous Hashmi (born July 5, 1964) is an American politician and former educator serving as a member of the Senate of Virginia for the 15th district since 2020. A Democrat, she previously worked as an educator and academic administrator for 25 years before running for office in 2019. Robert Creigh Deeds (; born January 4, 1958) is an American lawyer and politician serving as a member of the Senate of Virginia representing the 11th district since 2024, and previously the 25th district since 2001. Previously, he was the Democratic nominee for Attorney General of Virginia in 2005 and Governor of Virginia in 2009. He was defeated in both of those races by Republican Bob McDonnell. Mark Dudley Obenshain (born June 11, 1962) is an American attorney and politician. He is currently serving as a member of the Senate of Virginia from Harrisonburg. Mamie Evelyn Locke (born March 19, 1954) is an American politician and educator. A Democrat, she was a member of the Hampton, Virginia city council 1996–2004, and mayor 2000–2004.
