Christian, Prince-Elect Of Denmark
Christian (10 April 16032 June 1647) was Prince-Elect of Denmark from 1610 and Heir Apparent to the Throne of the Kingdom of Norway from 1603. Dying in 1647, he was succeeded by his younger brother, Prince Frederick. Biography Early life Prince Christian was born at Copenhagen Castle to King Christian IV (1577–1648) and Queen Anne Catherine (1575–1612) of Denmark, Norway, etc. Christian was their second son and the oldest one living, as his elder brother Frederik had died in 1599, less than a year old. As such, his father saw him as the preferable heir to the Danish throne. Denmark was an elective monarchy, where elective power was held by the Council of the Realm. However, the King would usually choose an heir and have him hailed as such, thus limiting the Council's freedom of choice. Beate Clausdatter Bille (30 April 1526 – 18 October 1605) was a Danish Danish nobility, noblewoman and vassal who was born into the noble Bille (noble family), Bille family and married into the Brahe, Brahe family. As a member of the royal court, she was Chief Court Mistress to Sophie of Mecklenburg-Güstrow, Queen Sophie from 1584 to 1592. She married statesman Otte Brahe and became a feudal fiefholder in her own right following the death of her husband. She and her husband Otte had 12 children, 8 of whom survived into adulthood, including the influential scientists and astronomers Tycho Brahe, Tycho and Sophia Brahe.Thoren & Christianson, p. 340. Peder Winstrup
Peder Pedersen Winstrup (30 April 1605 – 28 December 1679) was Bishop of Lund in Scania. Winstrup was bishop there during a period spanning both Denmark, Danish and Sweden, Swedish sovereignty and periods of war when the land was contested. He was married to the Danish noblewoman, Dorothea von Andersen who was an influential person in her own right in Scania and known to be strongly pro-Danish. Early life and education Winstrup was born in Copenhagen, then the capital of Denmark–Norway, on 30 April 1605. He was the son of Peder Jensen Vinstrup, Bishop of Diocese of Zealand, Zealand and professor of theology at the University of Copenhagen. After his father's death in 1614, his mother married his successor as bishop.
