15th World Scout Jamboree
The 15th World Scout Jamboree was held in 1983 and was hosted by Canada at Kananaskis Country, Kananaskis, Alberta, an area of Provincial Park at about 4,000 feet elevation, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, 80 miles west of Calgary, Alberta. ''The Spirit Lives On'' was the theme of the jamboree, with a total attendance of over 15,000 Scouts from over 100 countries. The name of the Jamboree refers to the idea that Scouting, and its spirit of international brotherhood, could overcome difficulties such as those which caused the cancellation of the 15th World Scout Jamboree (cancelled), 1979 Jamboree four years earlier. The subcamps were named after Canadian animals. A camp newspaper, "The Kanaskis Journal" was produced. Open fires were prohibited. Kananaskis Country
Kananaskis Country (abbreviated: K-Country) is a multi-use area west of Calgary, Alberta, Canada in the Rocky Mountain Foothills, foothills and front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. 14th World Scout Jamboree
The 14th World Scout Jamboree was held from 29 July to 7 August 1975, and was hosted by Norway at Lillehammer, on the shore of the Gudbrandsdalslågen river. King Olav V and Crown Prince Harald opened "Nordjamb '75", as it became popularly known, in the presence of 17,259 Scouts from 94 countries. Ragnhildur Helgadóttir, the President of the Nordic Council and László Nagy, the Secretary-General of the World Scout Bureau, also spoke at the opening ceremony. The motto of the jamboree was "Five Fingers, One Hand", representing the international cooperation on the part of the five Nordic countries responsible for its organization. 16th World Scout Jamboree
The 16th World Scout Jamboree was held from 30 December 1987 to 7 January 1988, the first World Scout Jamboree held in the Southern Hemisphere, and the first to change the date from the traditional August to January to coincide with summer. The Jamboree was hosted by Australia at Cataract Scout Park a specially constructed Scout tent city situated on a 160-hectare site at Appin, New South Wales, near Sydney, New South Wales. 14,434 Scouts from 84 countries attended the Jamboree, with around 13,000 more in attendance on "Visiting Day". The theme was ''Bringing the World Together''. The course of New Year's Day passed during the Jamboree, and the opening ceremony of the Jamboree, at midnight on 31 December 1987, was the first official event of Australia's Bicentenary. The 15th World Scout Jamboree () was scheduled to be held 15–23 July 1979 and was to be hosted by Iran at Nishapur, but was cancelled due to the Iranian Revolution which took place in 1979. Background The 15th World Jamboree was to be held at the "Omar Khayyám Scout Park" in the city of Nishapur. The Second Asia-Pacific Jamboree was held at the site in preparation, in the summer of 1977. However, the destabilizing events of the Islamic Revolution caused the 15th World Jamboree to be cancelled near the end of 1978. However, a number of commemorative items had already been made for the event, the demand for which and the value of which was greatly inflated by the Jamboree's cancellation. ''Scout Life'' (formerly ''Boys' Life'') is the monthly magazine of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Its target readers are children between the ages of 6 and 18. World Scout Jamboree
The World Scout Jamboree is a Scouting Jamboree (Scouting), jamboree of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, typically attended by several tens of thousands of Scouts from around the world, aged 14 to 17. Scouting In Alberta
Scouting and Guiding in Alberta has a long history, from the 1900s to the present day, serving thousands of youth in programs that suit the environment in which they live. Scouting Alberta Scouting is administered by two Councils within Scouts Canada: Northern Lights Council in the north (also responsible for the Northwest Territories), and Chinook Council in the south. In general, each council's territory is divided into Areas, and each Area contains sponsored Scouting Groups. Francophone Scouting groups exist in Calgary and in Edmonton.
