14-18, The Musical
''14-18, the musical'' is a Flemish musical about the First World War with the music of Dirk Brossé. The original production by Gert Verhulst and Hans Bourlon opened in April 2014 at the Nekkerhal in Mechelen, directed by Frank Van Laecke and produced by Studio 100. The show closed on November 11, 2014, after being seen by more than 320,000 visitors. The show is about a group of Flemish friends at the outbreak of World War I, as the war drags on longer than anyone expected. History Development On June 24, 2011, Studio 100 announced that the creative team of Daens was brought together to create a new spectacle about the First World War. On October 30, 2013 Studio 100 announced that there would be English language shows with an alternate cast. On April 15, 2014, it was announced that 117,000 tickets were sold. Gert Tony Hubert Verhulst (born 24 January 1968 in Berchem) is a Belgian presenter, entrepreneur, singer, autodidact, director, actor, screenwriter, composer, film producer, millionaire & business magnate. As a prominent figure within the children's entertainment industry in the Benelux, he is regarded as a Flemish cultural icon, known for his influence and contributions to children's entertainment in the Benelux and founder of Studio 100. Studio 100 is a Belgian production company with four television channels, four animation studios and 8 theme parks around the world. The headquarters of the group is based in Schelle, with offices in Breda, Munich, Paris, New York, Sydney and Los Angeles. History Studio 100 was founded in 1996 by Gert Verhulst, Danny Verbiest and Hans Bourlon. Free Souffriau (born 8 February 1980) is a Flemish musical actress and singer. Free is a Dutch spelling of Fré (a contracted form of Fréderique) and is hence pronounced 'fray' in contrast to the usual pronunciation of 'free' in English.
