137th Marine Battalion (Ukraine)
137th Separate Marine Battalion is a marine battalion of the 35th Marine Brigade (Ukraine), 35th Marine Brigade. It was established in late 2015 as a part of the Ukrainian Navy but was transferred to the Ukrainian Marine Corps in 2018. Internationally, it's also a part of the Balkan Battlegroup of the European Union. It is headquartered at Dachne, Odesa Oblast. History The battalion was established in November 2015. After establishment, it took part in training exercises in Chornomorske, Odesa Oblast, Chornomorske especially that of neutralizing sabotage and reconnaissance squads. In December 2015, the battalion, along with Ukrainian Naval Aviation and heavy artillery, conducted training in the Okny Raion at the border of Transnistria as a deterrent against any possible conflict with Transnistria. Dachne () is a village in Odesa Raion, Odesa Oblast (province) of Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Dachne rural hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Dachne was previously located in Biliaivka Raion until it was abolished and its territory was merged into Odesa Raion on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Odesa Oblast to seven. Shyrokyne Standoff
The Shyrokyne standoff was a battle for the control of the strategic village of Shyrokyne, located approximately east of Mariupol city limits, between Ukrainian forces led by the Azov Regiment, and Russian-backed separatists, between February and July 2015. It was part of the larger war in Donbas. On 10 February 2015, the Azov Regiment launched a surprise offensive against pro-Russian separatists associated with the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) with the aim of pushing the separatist forces away from Mariupol city limits. The village is located just from the Ukrainian-controlled city of Mariupol, and was used as a launching point for separatist attacks on the city, which served as the administrative centre of Donetsk Oblast whilst DPR forces control Donetsk city. Mariupol
Mariupol is a city in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. It is situated on the northern coast (Pryazovia) of the Sea of Azov, at the mouth of the Kalmius, Kalmius River. Snake Island (Ukraine)
Snake Island, also known as Serpent Island, White Island, Island of Achilles or Zmiinyi Island (; ), is a Ukrainian island located in the Black Sea, near the Danube Delta, with an important role in delimiting Ukrainian territorial waters. An exclusive economic zone (EEZ), as prescribed by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, is an area of the sea in which a sovereign state has exclusive rights regarding the exploration and use of marine natural resource, resources, including energy production from water and wind.
