131st Fighter Squadron
The 131st Fighter Squadron (131 FS), nicknamed ''the Barnestormers'', is a unit of the Massachusetts Air National Guard 104th Fighter Wing located at Barnes Air National Guard Base, Westfield, Massachusetts. The 131st is equipped with the McDonnell Douglas F-15C/D Eagle, and is due to convert to the Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II in June 2026. History World War II The squadron was first established in August 1942 at Bellows Field, Hawaii Territory as the 333d Fighter Squadron. It was initially part of the air defense of Hawaii, equipped with P-39 Airacobras. It also served as a Replacement Training Unit (RTU) and flew reconnaissance patrols over Hawaii until late 1943. The 333d deployed to the Central Pacific as part of the Thirteenth Air Force island hopping campaign against Japanese in late 1943. Bodø Main Air Station
Bodø Air Station is a military air base of the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF) located in the Bodø (town), town of Bodø in Bodø Municipality, Nordland county, Norway. The base is home for a detachment of AgustaWestland AW101#Royal Norwegian Air Force, AgustaWestland AW101 search and rescue (SAR) helicopters of the No. 330 Squadron RNoAF, 330 Squadron. The base was, until 2022, the home base for NATO, NATO's Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) mission. Pacific Ocean Areas (POA) was a major Allied military command in the Pacific Ocean theater of World War II. The 67th Fighter Wing was a unit of the United States Air Force for four years, between 1946 and 1950. It was located at Logan Airport in Boston, Massachusetts. The P-47 Thunderbolt is a World War II fighter aircraft built by Republic Aviation from 1941 to 1945. Early designs XP-47 (AP-10) In response to a USAAC requirement for a new fighter aircraft, Republic Aviation engineer Alexander Kartveli proposed the AP-10 lightweight high-altitude interceptor on August 1, 1939. As originally proposed, the AP-10 was to have been powered by a 1,150 hp Allison V-1710-39 12-cylinder inline engine and have an armament consisting of two nose-mounted .50 in (12.7 mm) M2 Browning machine guns.
