128th Ohio General Assembly
The One Hundred Twenty-eighth Ohio General Assembly was the legislative body of the state of Ohio from January 5, 2009 until December 31, 2010. Ted Strickland was Ohio Governor for its entirety. It was composed of the Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives. The apportionment of districts was based on the 2000 United States Census. It marked the first time in fourteen years that the Ohio Democratic Party controlled the House of Representatives, while the Ohio Republican Party maintained control of the Ohio Senate. Ted Strickland
Theodore Strickland (born August 4, 1941) is an American politician who was the 68th governor of Ohio, serving from 2007 to 2011. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served in the United States House of Representatives, representing (1993–1995, 1997–2007). In the 2006 gubernatorial election, Strickland was elected to succeed term-limited Republican incumbent Bob Taft, receiving 60% of the vote and defeating Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell. He was narrowly defeated for re-election in the 2010 gubernatorial election by former U.S. Representative John Kasich. In April 2014, Strickland became president of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, a progressive public policy research and advocacy organization. Matt Szollosi
Matthew A. "Matt" Szollosi (; born June 4, 1972) is a former Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing Toledo and Lucas County. As of 2022, he is executive director of Affiliated Construction Trades Ohio, an organization which represents the state's building trades. Career Szollosi was born in Toledo on June 4, 1972. His parents, Francis M. and Emma J. Szollosi (née Oravecz), have Hungarian roots. He received both his B.A. in English and his Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo. His wife is Melanie L. Gary Cates
Gary Cates (born December 27, 1955) is a Republican politician who served in the Ohio General Assembly. He was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1995 to 2004, and a member of the Ohio Senate from 2005 to 2011. Life and career A graduate of Virginia Tech and the University of Dayton, Cates began his political career as a Union Township Trustee from 1990 to 1995. When Representative Scott Nein resigned from the Ohio House of Representatives to take a seat in the Ohio Senate late in 1995, Cates was appointed to fill the remainder of his term. A reliably Republican district, Cates faced no opposition in the 1996 primary and beat Kendall L. Mays handily in the 1996 election. David Goodman (born February 13, 1967) is Republican politician who serves as the director of the Ohio Development Services Agency, the state's economic development department. He served as the director of the Ohio Department of Commerce from January 2011 until March 2013. He has also served in both chambers of the Ohio General Assembly. Cheryl Grossman
Cheryl Grossman (born October 15, 1950) is a former Republican member of the Ohio House of Representatives, who represented the 23rd District from 2009 to 2016. She served as assistant majority whip in the 129th General Assembly. Career Grossman served on the planning commission and city council before becoming Mayor of Grove City, Ohio in 1996, serving until 2008. Career After graduation from the University of Cincinnati, he received a Juris Doctor degree from Northern Kentucky University law school.
