128 AD Missile Regiment
128 Air Defence Missile Regiment is an Air Defence regiment of the Indian Army. Formation The regiment was raised on 1 April 1951 as a Territorial Army (India), territorial army regiment at Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu. The first commanding officer was Lieutenant Colonel Atma Singh Pannu, MBE. History At the time of its formation, the regiment was equipped with Bofors 40 mm Automatic Gun L/60, Bofors 40 mm L-60 anti-aircraft guns. The unit served at Arakkonam, Firozpur, Ferozepur and Madhopur, Punjab, Madhopur. On 15 September 1973, the unit was converted into a regular air defence regiment. It was equipped with Bofors 40 mm Automatic Gun L/70, L/70 guns and SFM radar. It served in Mumbai, Bombay, Udhampur, Jamnagar, Ferozepur, Srinagar and Surat. Operation Brasstacks was a combined arms military exercise of the Indian Armed Forces in the state of Rajasthan from November 1986 to January 1987. The operation's aim was to determine tactical nuclear strategy. As part of a series of exercises to simulate the operational capabilities of the Indian armed forces, it was the largest mobilization of Indian forces on the Indian subcontinent, involving the combined strength of two Army Commands - almost 500,000 troops - half the Indian Army. The 1984 Bhiwandi riot was a Hindu-Muslim riot that occurred in May 1984 in and around Bhiwandi town in Indian state of Maharashtra. It left 146 people dead and over 600 injured.
