''117'' is a 1976 Yugoslav (Kosovar) short documentary film directed by Besim Sahatçiu. It was produced by Kosovafilmi in Pristina. It was shot in the Kosovar village of Nevokaze, Gjakova, and depicts the day-to-day life of an Albanian family of 117 members. The film won the Grand Prix prize at the 1978 Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival. Besim Sahatçiu
Besim Sahatçiu (; 2 October 193520 October 2005) was a Kosovo Albanian director of theatre and film. Biography After finishing '' gymnasium'' in Peja, Sahatçiu studied literature at the University of Belgrade. Following the interruption of his studies due to compulsory military service, he worked as a translator for the publisher, '' Rilindja''. He later studied at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb, Croatia, and defended his thesis with staging Gogol's satirical play, ''The Government Inspector'', at People's Provincial Theatre in Pristina. Sahatçiu's ethnographic film, ''117'', won the Grand Prix at the Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival in 1978. The film was described as a “spiritual portrait of the nation.” As a theatre director, Sahatçiu worked at the National Theatre of Kosovo in Pristina. Gjakova
Gjakova or Đakovica, ) and Đakovica ( sr-Cyrl, Ђаковица, ) is the sixth largest city of Kosovo and seat of the Gjakova Municipality and the District of Gjakova, Gjakova District. According to the 2024 census, the municipality of Gjakova has 78,699 inhabitants. Geographically, it is located in the south-western part of Kosovo, about halfway between the cities of Peja and Prizren. It is approximately inland from the Adriatic Sea. The city is situated some north-east of Tirana, north-west of Skopje, west of the capital Pristina, south of Belgrade and east of Podgorica. The city of Gjakova has been populated since the prehistoric era. During the Ottoman Kosovo, Ottoman period, Gjakova served as a trading centre on the route between Shkodër, Shkodra and Istanbul, Constantinople. Dokufest
DokuFest is an international documentary and short film festival held in the Kosovo city of Prizren, held annually during early August. It was founded in 2002 by a group of friends. It has since grown into a cultural event that attracts international and regional artists and audiences. Films are screened throughout the eight-day festival and accompanied by programs, activities, and workshops. In 2022, DokuFest became a nominating film festival for the European Film Awards in two categories, short film and documentary film. Background DokuFest was established as a volunteer-based organization in 2002 with almost no funding at the beginning and continues to draw support from the community and agencies within Kosovo.
