Nelson J. Chu (September 16, 1976 – August 14, 2016), known professionally as DJ Official, was an American Christian hip hop DJ, record producer and songwriter. He was a member of the Christian hip hop collectives 116 Clique and The Cross Movement. Early life DJ Official was born Nelson J. Chu, in The Bronx, on September 16, 1976. He lived in Brooklyn during his childhood and later in Amityville, Long Island. Career DJ Official was a mentee of Hip hop artist Cipha Sounds in the mid-1990s, when both got out of high school. He was a member in the Christian hip hop collective 116 Clique. He released ''Entermission'' on December 29, 2009. It allowed him to crack the ''Billboard'' charts with his first album. ''Sin Vergüenza'' (''Unashamed'' in English) is the first album entirely in Spanish by 116 Clique, produced and distributed by Reach Records, in association with No Apologies Music, the label of Puerto Rican producer Cardec Drums. It was announced to be released at the end of October 2020, and was promoted with two singles: "Donde están (Watcho6)" ("Where are they (Watcho6)" in English), between Reach artists and other Latin rappers, and "La Fiesta" ("The Party" in English) by Lecrae and Funky. Chopped and screwed (also called screwed and chopped or slowed and throwed) is a genre of hip-hop music and technique of remixing music that involves slowing down the tempo and DJing. It was pioneered by DJ Screw, and became a staple in the Houston hip hop scene in the 1990's. The screwed technique involves slowing the tempo of a song down to 60 and 70 quarter-note beats per minute and applying techniques such as skipping beats, record scratching, stop-time and affecting portions of the original composition to create a "chopped-up" variant of the material.
