The controversy regarding the handling and representation of the Madrid train bombings by the government arose with Spain's two main political parties, Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) and Partido Popular (PP), accusing each other of concealing or distorting evidence for electoral reasons. 2004 Spanish General Election
A general election was held in Spain on Sunday, 14 March 2004, to elect the members of the 8th . All 350 seats in the Congress of Deputies were up for election, as well as 208 of 259 seats in the Senate. Spain was notably affected by a broader wave of anarchist terrorism that started in the late 19th century in Europe in connection to the notion of propaganda of the deed.
