The Modern Sky Festival (Chinese: 摩登天空音乐节; pinyin: Módēng Tiānkōng Yīnyuè Jié) is an outdoor rock music festival in Beijing, China, organized by the Modern Sky record label. The first festival was held October 2–4, 2007 at Haidian Park. It featured four stages of music and over 120 bands, including the headliners, the American band Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Chinese bands included New Pants, Rebuilding The Rights Of Statues, P.K. 14, Queen Sea Big Shark, Joyside, Carsick Cars, and Snapline. In the 2009 festival, all foreign bands were dropped from performing due to "unforeseen circumstances". Only local Chinese bands performed. As of 2014, the parent company Modern Sky Entertainment put on more than 20 festivals a year throughout China. Plexifilm
Plexifilm was an independent DVD label and film production company co-founded by Gary Hustwit (formerly VP of Salon.com) and Sean Anderson (formerly Director of DVD Development of The Criterion Collection) in 2001. Plexifilm produced original films, released films theatrically, and produced, distributed and marketed DVDs. Controversy In late 2008, after the band Wilco heard of Plexifilm's interest in releasing a Blu-ray version of the Sam Jones documentary '' I Am Trying to Break Your Heart: A Film About Wilco'', the band urged fans in emails and on television appearances to not buy the new version. Last accessed Dec 28, 2008. Wilco's stance is that the cost does not substantiate any gained value for the money to their fans. Midi Music Festival
The Midi Music Festival, sometimes also called Midi Modern Music Festival or simply Midi Festival () is among China's largest rock music festivals and is hosted by the Beijing Midi School of Music. Since its inauguration in 1997 it has been held each year in Beijing during the May Day holiday (May 1–3), with some breaks in 2003, 2004 and 2008 (all times held in October). Currently, it change to（ April 28th to May 1st). The 2008 festival was delayed to October for reasons related to the 2008 Summer Olympics, and in 2020 and 2021 they were cancelled due to COVID. The Beijing Pop Festival () is a rock music festival held in Beijing, China's Chaoyang Park each September since 2005. It features rock bands from China as well as from overseas. It is a pioneer music event in China since it was the first international music festival with a permit from the Ministry of Culture of China. It was founded by Jason Magnus, a Harvard graduate who is based in Hong Kong. Beijing Jazz Festival
The Beijing Jazz Festival () is China's first and largest jazz festival. It was founded in 1993 by Udo Hoffmann, a German national living in China. The festival is hosted by the Beijing Midi School of Music and Beijing Midi Productions. The festival was held in Beijing from 1993 to 1999, with a seven-year hiatus. The festival returned to Beijing from September 21 to 23, 2007, and has taken place outdoors in Haidian Park, in Beijing's northwestern Haidian District.
