Daniel Chorny (; –1430) was a Russian monk and icon painter. Career Together with his companion Andrei Rublev and other painters, Chorny worked at the Dormition Cathedral in Vladimir (1408) and the Trinity Cathedral in the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius (1420s). Some icons for these cathedrals are believed to have been painted by Chorny. Dmitri Vladimirovich Chorny (; born 10 March 1975 in Moscow) is a Russian historic preservation activist, journalist, poet, and writer. He is also a musician. Hryhoriy Chorny
Hryhoriy Savych Chorny (, ), died 1630, was a Hetman of the Dnieper Cossacks from 1628 to 1630 who represented the registered Cossacks while the larger bulk of unregistered ones elected Taras Fedorovych ''(Triasylo)'' as their popular leader. In 1628 Chorny along with Mykhailo Doroshenko took part in the Crimean campaign against the Crimean Tatars. Following Doroshenko's death both Fedorovych and Chorny laid their claim to Hetmanship while only the latter's claim was recognized by the Polish Crown despite Fedorovych's unquestionably larger popular support. As a Hetman, Chorny conducted pro-Polish policies, particularly aimed at suppression and control of the rank and file of the unregistered Cossacks. During the popular Fedorovych Uprising of unregistered Cossacks and peasants Chorny was captured by the rebels and had to stand trial before a Cossack military tribunal. Joseph Judah Yakovlevich Chorny (; 20 April 1835 – 28 April 1880) was a Russian traveller and scholar. His parents arranged for him to start working in the wine-growing industry, but his real passion was for travel and exploration, and he soon abandoned wine-growing. For eight years Chorny, with practically no finance, explored a great part of the Caucasus, Transcaucasia, and many Asiatic countries; studying everywhere the life, customs, and history of the inhabitants, and chiefly those of the Jews. In 1875, on returning from his travels, he endeavored to publish his studies on the Jews of the countries he had visited, but failed to find the necessary money. He resumed the life of an explorer; and after five years of hardships and privations returned, in ill health and poverty, to Odessa, where he died, on 28 April 1880, shortly after his arrival.
