''Kontsert'' (; Russian language, Russian: Концерт, ; commonly read as ''Kohuept'' or ''Kohliept'', ) is the second live album by Billy Joel, released in 1987. The album was recorded during the Soviet Union, Soviet leg of Joel's 1987 The Bridge Tour, ''The Bridge'' tour. This album was co-produced by Jim Boyer (audio engineer), Jim Boyer and Brian Ruggles and mixed by Jim Boyer. Background In 1986 Billy Joel was invited to perform in the Soviet Union the following year, 1987. Joel took advantage of this opportunity to be a musical ambassador. He was seen as a "nice, safe, first attempt at bringing in an American 'pop star.'" The concert The tour of the Soviet Union consisted of six shows, three in Moscow and three in Leningrad. Jim Boyer (audio Engineer)
James Boyer (May 19, 1951 – June 15, 2022) was an American audio engineer, known for having recorded and mixed many recordings including Billy Joel's '' The Stranger'', '' 52nd Street'' and ''The Nylon Curtain'', and the soundtracks for '' Yentl'' and ''Silkwood'', as well as producing Billy Joel's ''The Matter of Trust: A Bridge to Russia'', Rupert Holmes' '' Partners in Crime'' and Peter Cetera's ''Peter Cetera''. Biography Boyer was born in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Cedar Crest High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Delaware in 1973. During his high school and college years, he played keyboards in a number of east coast regional bands including Rain, which he was with from 1970 to 1975. Boyer attended and graduated from the Institute of Audio Research to prepare him for work in the business. Songs In The Attic
''Songs in the Attic'' is the first live album by Billy Joel, released in 1981. At the time of its release, it was the first widely available appearance of music from his first album, ''Cold Spring Harbor'', released in 1971. History In the liner notes, Joel writes that ''Songs in the Attic'' introduced his earlier work to fans who had come to know his work after '' The Stranger''. In that earlier work, most of the instruments were played by session musicians while Joel himself sang and played piano, keyboards, and harmonica. But by the late 1970s, Joel had a fairly consistent touring/recording band and wanted to showcase his songs as played by his band. The single-releases included: " Say Goodbye to Hollywood", which peaked at #17 on the U. S. Billboard Hot 100; and "She's Got a Way", which reached #23 on the same chart; and " You're My Home".
