Škoda Fiat Torino
The Škoda Fiat Torino was a Czechoslovak-designed armored car built by Škoda Works in 1920, based on the Italian Fiat 18BL truck. History In 1919 the MNO (Czechoslovak Army Material Commission) sent specifications for Škoda for an armored vehicle that was to be both well armed and highly mobile. The Fiat 18BL was chosen for the chassis to speed up production as it had already been adopted by the army and was readily available. By January 1920 a prototype was completed, which was accepted after testing and a further eleven units were ordered and delivered the same year. These were initially numbered 3–14, but later designated NVII 753–764. The Torino's chassis featured dual rear wheels in a 4x2 configuration, with hard rubber tires and leaf springs. A military armored (Commonwealth English, also spelled armoured) car is a wheeled armoured fighting vehicle, historically employed for reconnaissance, internal security, armed escort, and other subordinate battlefield tasks. With the gradual decline of mounted cavalry, armored cars were developed for carrying out duties formerly assigned to light cavalry. Following the invention of the tank, the armoured car remained popular due to its faster speed, comparatively simple maintenance and low production cost. It also found favor with several Colonial troops, colonial armies as a cheaper weapon for use in underdeveloped regions. During World War II, most armoured cars were engineered for reconnaissance and passive observation, while others were devoted to communications tasks. Škoda Works
The Škoda Works (, ) was one of the largest European industrial conglomerates of the 20th century. In 1859, Czech engineer Emil Škoda bought a foundry and machine factory in Plzeň, Bohemia, Austria-Hungary that had been established ten years previously, founding Škoda Works. By World War I, Škoda Works had become the largest arms manufacturer in Austria-Hungary, supplying the Austro-Hungarian army with mountain guns, mortars and machine guns, including the Škoda M1909, and the ships of the Austro-Hungarian navy with heavy guns. Fiat 18BL
The Fiat 18BL was a military truck produced by Fiat for the Italian Army, starting in 1915, developed from the Fiat 18 truck. History In 1914 the Italians were in great need of vehicles, especially trucks, so the War Department tasked Fiat with developing a standard military truck comparable to those used by Britain, France, and Germany. The 18BL turned out to be a sturdy, rugged design and was produced by the hundreds from 1915 to 1921. The 38 hp Fiat CA four cylinder engine gave the truck a top speed of 24 km/h and was mated to a five speed (4 forward, one reverse) transmission. Carrying capacity was 3.5 tonnes with a 165 cm wide wheelbase that allowed for a 6.8 m turning radius. Overall length was 3.5 m and overall width was 1.75 m, and the truck was equipped with a wooded frame and sides covered by a canvas body. MG 08
The MG 08 ( 08) is a heavy machine gun (HMG) which served as the standard HMG of the Imperial German Army during World War I. It was an adaptation of Hiram Maxim's 1884 Maxim gun design, and was produced in a number of variants during the war. The MG 08 also saw service during World War II in the infantry divisions of the German Army, although by the end of the war it had mostly been relegated to second-rate "fortress" units. Designated after 1908, the year it was adopted by the Imperial German Army, the MG 08 was a development of the license-made 01.
