Šimon Nemec
Šimon Nemec (born 15 February 2004) is a Slovak professional ice hockey defenceman for the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted second overall by the Devils in the 2022 NHL entry draft, becoming the second of back-to-back Slovak selections. Competing internationally as part of Slovak national team, Nemec won a bronze medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics, which was the first Olympic medal for Slovakia in ice hockey. He is identified as part of a rising new generation of Slovak ice hockey players. Playing career HK Nitra Nemec was born in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia, and played youth hockey for the local club, MHk 32 Liptovský Mikuláš. Liptovský Mikuláš (; until 1952 ''Liptovský Svätý Mikuláš'', ; ) is a town in northern Slovakia, on the Váh River, about from Bratislava. Juraj Slafkovský (born 30 March 2004) is a Slovak professional ice hockey forward for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League (NHL). David Jiříček (born 28 November 2003) is a Czech professional ice hockey defenceman for the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted sixth overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2022 NHL entry draft. Competing internationally as part of Czech Republic national team, he won a bronze medal at the 2022 IIHF World Championship, and a silver medal with the junior national team at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship. Šimon (Old Norse: ''Sigmundr'') was a Varangian (Viking) whose story is related in the Kievan ''Patericon'' and his story concerns the creation of the Kievan cave monastery, where he is reported to have been its most important donor.
