Şerif Mardin (1927 – 6 September 2017) was a prominent Turkish sociologist, political scientist, academic and thinker. In a 2008 publication, he was referred to as the "doyen of Turkish sociology." Early life and education He was born in Istanbul in 1927 as Ahmed Halil Şerif Arif Mardin. His father was Şemsettin Mardin, a Turkish ambassador. Şemsettin Mardin was a member of very long-established family and was uncle to Arif Mardin and Betul Mardin. Şerif Yenen (born 17 May 1963) is a Turkish travel specialist, tour guide, travel writer, film-maker, international keynote speaker and lecturer. He wrote '' Turkish Odyssey'' in English, the “first guidebook of Turkey ever written by a Turk”. Halil Şerif Pasha
Khalil Sherif Pasha, transliterated variously as Halil Şerif Pasha (, 20 June 1831 – 12 January 1879), was an Ottoman-Egyptian statesman, diplomat and art collector, who lived during the Tanzimat period. His collection was described by Théophile Gautier as "the first ever to be formed by a child of Islam". He was furthermore involved in diplomatic affairs following the aftermath of the Crimean War. Şerif Erol (born 8 October 1963) is a Turkish actor and screenwriter. Life and career Erol decided to become a physicist and enrolled in the Physics Department of Boğaziçi University after his high school physics teacher declared to his class that they were not fit to become physicists. Mustafa Şerif İlden (1877, Veles – 1952, Istanbul) was a Turkish career officer, diplomat and far-right politician. Biography He was born in Veles. His father, Hüseyin Avni Bey, was a civil servant in Skopje. Şerif Bey graduated from the Manastır Military High School in 1891 and the Istanbul Field Artillery School in 1895. In the same year, he entered the Military Academy with the rank of lieutenant. When the Balkan Wars broke out, he was the Chief of Staff of the Western Army. On January 8, 1914, he was appointed as the Chief of Staff of the 9th Corps in Erzurum. He participated in World War I. Şerif Gören (, 1 July 1944 – 8 December 2024) was a Turkish film director. Aside from important films under his own signature, he was also the winner of the Palme d'Or ("Golden Palm") award in Cannes Film Festival in 1982 for the film '' Yol'', which he had directed on behalf of Yılmaz Güney, who at the time was serving a prison sentence for the murder of Yumurtalık judge Sefa Mutlu. Gören started his film career as an editor, and then continued as an assistant director to Yılmaz Güney. He and Güney started directing ''Endişe'' (''The Anxiety'') in 1974, in the beginning of which Güney was arrested and sent to prison. Mehmet Şerif Fırat
Mehmet Şerif Fırat (1894/1899 – 1949) was a Kurdish author and is known for his 1945 book ''History of Varto and the Eastern Provinces'' in which he denied the existence of Kurds and claimed they are of Turkish origin. The book was republished in 1961 and counted with a foreword from the Turkish president Cemal Gürsel.
