Turkey was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1987 with the song "", written by Olcayto Ahmet Tuğsuz, and performed by Seyyal Taner and Grup Lokomotif. The Turkish participating broadcaster, the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), selected its entry through a national final. Before Eurovision The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) held the national final on 21 February 1987 at its studios in Ankara, hosted by television presenter and Turkish commentator Bülend Özveren. Ten songs competed and the winner was determined by a sixteen-member jury. Other participants included past and future Turkish representative MFÖ ( and ), Arzu Ece ( as part of the Grup Pan and ) and Kayahan (). At Eurovision On the night of the contest, Turkey performed 10th following Spain and preceding Greece. The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT; Turkish: ) is the national public broadcasting, public broadcaster of Turkey, founded in 1964. TRT was for many years the only television and radio broadcaster in Turkey. Before the introduction of commercial radio in 1990, and subsequently commercial television in 1992, it held a monopoly on broadcasting. More recent deregulation of the Turkish television broadcasting market produced analogue terrestrial television. Aşkın Nur Yengi (born on 3 July 1970) is a Turkish singer, composer, and actress. She started working as a backing vocalist for Sezen Aksu and with Aksu's help, released her first studio album in 1990. Attila Özdemiroğlu
Attila Özdemiroğlu (5 January 1943 – 20 April 2016) was a Turkish composer, arranger and music producer. He was best known for his award winning film scores in the 1970s and 1980s. Career Born on 5 January 1943 in Ankara, Özdemiroğlu got interested in playing music already in his early years. At his age of eight, he took private lessons on violin. Learning to play many music instruments such as flute, vibraphone, double bass and trombone, he participated at music events during his high school and university years. In 1966, he moved to Istanbul and joined the music band "Durul Gence 5". Later, Özdemiroğlu played in several other music groups and also for Turkish pop stars like Ajda Pekkan, Nilüfer, Kayahan and Sezen Aksu. Özkan Uğur
Raif Özkan Uğur (17 October 1953 – 8 July 2023) was a Turkish pop and rock musician, member of the renowned band MFÖ and actor. After starting his career in 1970, he became a founding member of Kurtalan Ekspres in 1972, which included Barış Manço. After switching several bands for the next few years, Uğur formed MFÖ together with Mazhar Alanson and Fuat Güner in 1980. Uğur started acting in 1983 in theatrical plays of Ferhan Şensoy, later acting in movies and TV series as well, most notably in ''Cennet Mahallesi'', '' Poyraz Karayel'' and films of Cem Yılmaz. Aziz Fuat Güner (born 1 April 1948), better known as Fuat Güner, is a Turkish musician, member of the renowned band MFÖ. Early life He was born on 1 April 1948 in Istanbul, Turkey to a renowned photographer father, Sami Güner. He is of partial Albanian descent. During his school years at St. Joseph High School in Istanbul, he was a very active sportsman, playing football, volleyball and sailing. Mahmut Mazhar Alanson (born February 13, 1950) is a Turkish musician, guitarist, member of the popular Turkish pop music band MFÖ, and an actor. Early life He was born on February 13, 1950, to a family of musicians in Ankara, Turkey, where his father was the head trumpeter in the State Philharmonic Orchestra. He attended Kadıköy Anadolu Lisesi, commonly known as Kadıköy Maarif College for his high school education in Istanbul following his father's death. Mazhar Fuat Özkan (MFÖ) was a Turkish pop and rock band consisted of members Mazhar Alanson, Fuat Güner, and Özkan Uğur. While many of their songs poke fun at common Turkish types ("Ali Desidero", "Piskopatım") or satirise prejudice and corruption ("Deli Deli", "Rüşvet"), others are more spiritual in nature, showing their interest in Sufism ("Sufi", "Ateş-i Aşka"). Ohannes Tunçboyacıyan, better known as Onno Tunç (20 December 1948 – 14 January 1996), was a leading Turkish musician of Armenian descent, working mainly as a composer, arranger and a music producer. Aysel Gürel
Gönül Aysel Gürel (7 February 1929 – 17 February 2008) was a Turkish lyricist and actress. Besides her lyrics, which were performed by singers throughout Turkey, she was known for her outlandish clothing, make up and wigs. Biography Aysel Gürel was born in 1929 in Denizli, Turkey, in the western part of the country. She graduated from Istanbul University with a faculty of literature degree. Her lyrics were performed by such noted Turkish singers as Sezen Aksu. Besides lyric writing, Gürel also worked as an actress, drama player and a Turkologist.
