Fusakichi Omori
was a pioneer Japanese seismologist, second chairman of seismology at Tokyo Imperial University and president of the Japanese Imperial Earthquake Investigation Committee. Omori is also known for his observation describing the aftershock rate of earthquakes, now known as Omori's law. Education Omori studied physics with the initial British foreign advisors serving as professors at the Imperial University of Tokyo, especially John Milne until he left Japan in 1895, as well as Japanese colleagues including Seikei Sekiya who in 1880 became the first professor of seismology at Tokyo Imperial University. Early career Sekiya and Omori published the first clear record of a destructive earthquake, obtained by their measuring devices at the university. Shigetaka Ōmori
was an officer and ace fighter pilot in the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Pacific theater of World War II. In aerial combat over China and the Pacific, he was officially credited with destroying 13 enemy aircraft. Early career Shigetaka Ōmori enlisted into the Navy in May 1933 and graduated from the 33rd IJN enlisted pilot training class in September 1936. In February 1938, he was posted to the 13th Kōkūtai operating in central China. His first successful aerial combat was on 25 February 1938 over the city of Nanchang, where he shot down one aircraft. Ōmori Harutoyo
was a Japanese surgeon who became the first president of the Fukuoka Medical College that was founded in 1903 as a branch of the Medical Faculty of Kyōto University (''Kyōto teikoku daigaku Fukuoka ika-daigaku'', now the Faculty of Medicine, Kyushu University). Ōmori was born in Edo, but he grew up in the domain Kaminoyama (Dewa province, nowadays Yamagata prefecture) where his father Ōmori Kaishun served as a physician to lord Matsudaira Nobumichi. In 1879 he graduated from Tokyo University; the same year he went to a new post in the newly established Fukuoka Medical School. In 1888 when this school was abolished, he was appointed as the first director of the Fukuoka Prefectural Hospital. In 1885, he performed the first cesarean operation in Japan.
