Ōita Prefecture
is a prefecture of Japan located on the island of Kyūshū. Ōita Prefecture has a population of 1,081,646 (1 February 2025) and has a geographic area of 6,340 km2 (2,448 sq mi). Ōita Prefecture borders Fukuoka Prefecture to the northwest, Kumamoto Prefecture to the southwest, and Miyazaki Prefecture to the south. Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler
is a men's volleyball team based in Oita City, Oita, Japan. Prior to its suspension of activities and withdrawal in May 2024, the team played in V.League Division 2, the second-level Japanese volleyball league. It represented Japan at the 2014 Asian Men's Club Volleyball Championship. History Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler was founded in 1994 by the Miyoshi Clinic of Internal Medicine and Cardiology. Originally called Miyoshi Cardiology EKG, then Miyoshi Cardiology EKG Oita, the team was named "Weisse Adler", meaning "white eagles" in German, for the characters in the name of the of the clinic. The founder, Hiroshi Miyoshi, was the director of the hospital and was also involved in the management of the team. Most of the team also worked at the hospital. It originally had nine members. Koichi Oita
was a Japanese football player and manager. He played for Japan national team. National team career Oita was born in Tokyo on April 9, 1914. In 1936, when he was a Tokyo Imperial University student, he was selected Japan national team for 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. At this competition, on August 4, he debuted against Sweden. Although he was a midfielder, he played as a defender. Japan completed a come-from-behind victory against Sweden. The first victory in Olympics for the Japan and the historic victory over one of the powerhouses became later known as "Miracle of Berlin" ( ベルリンの奇跡) in Japan. In 2016, this team was selected Japan Football Hall of Fame. On August 7, he also played against Italy. He played 2 games for Japan in 1936. Oita Broadcasting System
or OBS is a television company based in Ōita Prefecture, Japan. Famous radio announcer and personality Toshio Nishimura used to appear on OBS. He is well known throughout the prefecture and is often referred to by his radio nickname "Bin Bin". He is also known for his English pronunciation. Oita Airport
is an international airport in Kunisaki City, Ōita Prefecture Japan, northeast of Ōita City. Oita Airport is an offshore airport built on reclaimed coastal waters off the Kunisaki Peninsula. It opened as New Oita Airport in 1971 as a replacement for the old Oita Airport within Oita City. In 2018, the airport had 2.1 million passengers. The airport is accessible by bus but not by train. Hovercraft service to Oita City was available until it was suspended in 2009, the last hovercraft service to operate in Japan.
