İstanbul Modern
Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, colloquially referred to as Istanbul Modern (), is a contemporary art gallery located inside the Galataport complex in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, Turkey. Inaugurated on December 11, 2004, Istanbul Modern was Turkey's first modern and contemporary art gallery and focuses on Turkish as well as international artists. It is a private venture under the umbrella of the nonprofit Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts. As of 2004, Oya Eczacıbaşı serves as chair of the board of directors. Beyoğlu (; ) is a municipality and Districts of Turkey, district of Istanbul Province, Istanbul Province, Turkey. Its area is 9 km2, and its population is 225,920 (2022). It is on the European side of Istanbul, Turkey, separated from the old city (historic peninsula of Constantinople) by the Golden Horn. Istanbul State Art And Sculpture Museum
The Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum () is a museum in the Tophane area of European Istanbul, Turkey. It is part of the large Galataport complex. The museum was originally housed in the mansion of the crown prince attached to the Dolmabahçe Palace in the Beşiktaş neighbourhood of Istanbul.The building housing it dated back to 1856. On 20 September 1937, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, suggested its conversion into a museum since the imperial family had been driven into exile with the coming of the Turkish Republic. It has now been moved into a new gallery on the edge of the Galataport where it is very close to the Istanbul Modern gallery, turning the area into an artistic hub for the city. The building chosen - Antrepo No 5 - was originally designed to serve the old port at Karaköy by the Turkish architect Sedad Hakkı Eldem. ''Runner'' is a 2017 sculpture by Tony Cragg Sir Anthony Douglas Cragg (born Liverpool 9 April 1949) is an Anglo-German sculptor, resident in Wuppertal, Germany since 1977. Yıldız Moran
Yıldız Moran (; 24 July 1932 – 15 April 1995) was a Turkish photographer who was active from 1950 to 1962. Her work has posthumously been shown in solo exhibitions at Pera Museum and at İstanbul Modern in Istanbul, and is held in the collection of the latter. Life and work Moran attended Robert College in Istanbul, leaving in her senior year. Following the advice of her uncle, art historian , she then moved to the UK and studied photography first at Bloomsbury Technical College and then at Ealing Technical College in London. She was active as a photographer from 1950 to 1962, when she gave up photography for lexicography. Moran married poet Özdemir Asaf in 1963 and had three children in four years. Selma Gürbüz
Selma Gürbüz (1960 – 22 April 2021) was a Turkish painter and sculptor. Biography Gürbüz was born in Istanbul in 1960. She studied painting, photography and theatre at Exeter College of Art and Design in England in 1978, and continued with her studies there in painting and sculpture from 1980 to 1982. She graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting in 1984, and held her first solo exhibition in Istanbul in 1986. She was one of Turkey's leading contemporary artists and her works appear in the collections of the British Museum in London, the Fondation Maeght in Paris, SantralIstanbul, İstanbul Modern, Proje 4L and Bilgi University in Istanbul, and in the State Art and Sculpture Museum in Ankara. Bedri Baykam
Bedri Baykam is a Turkish artist. Early life Baykam was born in Ankara, Turkey. Baykam's father, Suphi Baykam, was a deputy in the Turkish parliament, and his mother, Mutahhar Baykam, is an architectural engineer. Baykam studied at Sorbonne University in Paris from 1975 to 1980 and earned an MBA degree. During this time, he studied drama in L'Actorat, Paris. He lived in California from 1980 to 1987, studied painting and film-making at California College of Arts and Crafts, in Oakland. He returned to Turkey in 1987 to live in Istanbul. Semiha Berksoy
Semiha Berksoy (24 May 1910 – 15 August 2004) was a Turkish opera singer and painter. Early life Semiha Berksoy was born in Çengelköy, Istanbul on 25 May 1910. Her mother was a painter, her father a poet and accountant. Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu (1911 – 21 September 1975) was a Turkish people, Turkish Painting, painter, mosaic-maker, muralist, writer and poet. His art work was inspired by Anatolian village scenes and folk literature, and included traditional handicraft folk patterns. Early life Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu was born in 1911 in Görele on the Black Sea, the second child in a family with five. His elder brother, Sabahattin Eyüboğlu, was a well-known writer and his younger sister, Mualla Eyüboğlu, was one of the first architects working in restoration and well known for her work on the Topkapı Palace#Harem, Harem section of Topkapı Palace in Istanbul. Adnan Coker
