Sevim İpek Ongun (née Erden; born 7 January 1942 in Ankara) is a Turkish women writers, Turkish novelist. She was born to Nusret Erden, an officer in Turkish Army and Fatma Aliye Erden, a literature teacher. After graduating from Arnavutköy American High School for Girls in 1961, she took courses on literary criticism in New York, United States. She began her literary career by writing for ''Doğan Kardeş'', a children's periodical in Istanbul. She also served for ''Time (magazine), Time magazine'' and ''Life (magazine), Life magazine''. As a novelist, she wrote mainly for the juveniles. In 1991, she was awarded a "Golden Book" by the Turkish trade fair organizer TÜYAP. In 1998, she was named as the "Most Successful Author". She is married and a mother of two. Currently she is living in Mersin, her husband's home city. Turkish People

Turkish Women Writers
Turkish women writers refers to Turkish women contributors to Turkish literature. The area is parallel to Women's writing in English. Pioneers During the Ottoman era, there were only a few woman poets and novelists. Professor Nazan Bekiroğlu gives the priority to two woman poets; Zeynep Hatun and Mihri Hatun who lived in the 15th century. But probably the best known woman poet was Fitnat Hanım of the 18th century. The first Ottoman novelists were Zafer Hanım who was the first author of a novel published in 1877 and Fatma Aliye who is considered by many as the first Turkish female novelist. Doğan Kardeş (literally 'Brother Doğan') was the name of a publishing company and a periodical for children in Turkey. The periodical and the company were named after Doğa, a 10-year-old boy studying in a school in Flims, Switzerland. He died during an avalanche on 10 April 1939. His father, Kâzım Taşkent, who was the founder of Yapı ve Kredi Bankası established a publishing company to commemorate his son.
