İbrahim Fırtına
Halil İbrahim Fırtına (born 1941 in Ordu, Turkey) is a retired Turkish Air Force general and Commander of the Turkish Air Force. Fırtına retired in 2005. He was tried in the alleged "Sledgehammer" coup plan conspiracy by senior members of the Turkish armed forces. Turkish Invasion Of Cyprus
The Turkish invasion of Cyprus began on 20 July 1974 and progressed in two phases over the following month. Taking place upon a background of Cypriot intercommunal violence, intercommunal violence between Greek Cypriots, Greek and Turkish Cypriots, and in response to a 1974 Cypriot coup d'état, Greek junta-sponsored Cypriot coup d'état five days earlier, it led to the Turkish Military occupation, capture and occupation of the northern part of the island. The coup was ordered by the Greek junta, military junta in Greece and staged by the Cypriot National Guard in conjunction with EOKA B. It deposed the Cypriot president Archbishop Makarios III and installed Nikos Sampson. Faruk Cömert
General Faruk Cömert, 26th Commander of the Turkish Air Force, was born in the Vezirköprü district of Samsun Province, Turkey, in 1946. He began his military career when he entered the Air Force High School in 1960. Cömert graduated from the Air Force High School in 1965, completed his flight training and joined the front line of the Turkish Air Force as a jet pilot. Following the completion of his education at the Turkish Air War College and the Armed Forces Academy, Cömert graduated from the Air Command and Staff College and the Academic Instructor School at the Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, United States.
