Þórður Snær Skagfjörð Júlíusson (born 1 December 1980) is an Icelandic journalist. Biography Þórður was the co-founder and editor-in-chief of news outlet Kjarninn until it merged with Stundin in 2023 to form Heimildin. Þórður was co-editor of Heimildin until his exit in late July 2024. The (; ), anglicised as Althingi or Althing, is the Parliamentary sovereignty, supreme Parliament, national parliament of Iceland. It is the oldest surviving parliament in the world. Reykjavík North (Althing Constituency)
Reykjavík North () is one of the six multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established in 2003 when the existing Reykjavík constituency was split into two. ''Kjarninn'' () was an Icelandic online newspaper founded in August 2013. Previously ''Kjarninn'' was a weekly digital news magazine served via Apple App Store aimed at tablet computer users but PDFs were also available at the website. Since September 2014 ''Kjarninn was an online-only newspaper. The founders of ''Kjarninn'' originally worked at 365's free newspaper ''Fréttablaðið'', which maintained a virtual monopoly on the market (69% in 2004). 2024 Icelandic Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Iceland on 30 November 2024 to elect the 63 members of the Althing. The centre-left Social Democratic Alliance, led by Kristrún Frostadóttir, outperformed the ruling Independence Party to win the most seats, at 15. The election saw the worst performance by the Independence Party, Progressive Party, the Left-Green Movement, and the Pirate Party in each of the parties' histories, while Viðreisn, the People's Party, and the Centre Party saw their best performance in each of the parties' histories. This follows a trend of Icelanders voting against every post– 2008 recession government except during the 2021 election.
