Þórarinn Ingi Pétursson
Þórarinn Ingi Pétursson (born 22 August 1972) is an Icelandic politician from the Progressive Party (Iceland), Progressive Party. He is a member of the Icelandic Parliament in the Northeast (Althing constituency), Northeast Constituency. He was the first deputy of the Progressive Party in the Northeast Constituency after the 2017 Icelandic parliamentary election and served as a deputy several times, becoming the 9th MP for the constituency upon the death of Þórunn Egilsdóttir on 9 July 2021. He was then elected to the Parliament in the 2021 Icelandic parliamentary election, 2021 election. He was re-elected in 2024 Icelandic parliamentary election, 2024. In Parliament he is chairman of the Agriculture Committee. Þórarinn has been a Icelandic sheep, sheep farmer since 1994, graduating as an agricultural engineer from Hólaskóli the same year. Althing
The (; ), anglicised as Althingi or Althing, is the Parliamentary sovereignty, supreme Parliament, national parliament of Iceland. It is the oldest surviving parliament in the world. The Althing was founded in 930 at ('Thing (assembly), thing fields' or 'assembly fields'), about east of what later became the country's capital, ReykjavÃk. After Iceland's union with Norway in 1262, the Althing lost its legislative power, which was not restored until 1904 when Iceland gained home rule from Denmark. Icelandic Sheep
The Icelandic is the Icelandic breed of domestic sheep. It belongs to the Northern European Short-tailed group of sheep, and is larger than most breeds in that group. It is thought to have been introduced to Iceland by Vikings in the late ninth or early tenth century. It is generally short-legged and stocky, slender and light-boned, and usually horned, although polled and polycerate animals can occur; there is a polled strain, the . 2024 Icelandic Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Iceland on 30 November 2024 to elect the 63 members of the Althing. The centre-left Social Democratic Alliance, led by Kristrún Frostadóttir, outperformed the ruling Independence Party to win the most seats, at 15.
