Þorsteinn Víglundsson
Þorsteinn Víglundsson (born 22 November 1969) is an Icelandic politician who served as a Member of the Althing for Viðreisn. He served as Iceland's Minister of Social Affairs and Equality in 2017, and under his leadership, a bill of law (amendments to the Gender Equality Act No. 10/2008) was passed by the Icelandic Parliament (Althingi) with a vast majority on 1 June 2017 and came into force on 1 January 2018. Companies and institutions employing 25 or more workers, on an annual basis, are required to obtain equal pay certification of their equal pay systems and the implementation thereof. The purpose of this obligatory certification is to enforce the current legislation prohibiting discriminatory practices based on gender and requiring women and men working for the same employer to be paid equal wages and enjoy equal terms of employment for the same jobs or jobs of equal value. The Ministry of Welfare () is an Icelandic Cabinet of Iceland, cabinet-level ministry founded 1 January 2011. It is the result of the merger of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Security, founded 17 April 1939 as the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Health, founded 20 November 1959. It is responsible for administration and policy making of social affairs, health and social security. The first Minister of Welfare was Guðbjartur Hannesson. Bjarni Benediktsson (; born 26 January 1970), known colloquially as Bjarni Ben, is an Icelandic former politician who served as the prime minister of Iceland from January to November 2017 and again from April to December 2024. He was the leader of the Icelandic Independence Party from 2009 to 2025, and served as the minister of finance and economic affairs from 2013 to 2017, a post he later retained under Katrín Jakobsdóttir and held until his resignation in October 2023. After serving briefly as the minister for foreign affairs from 2023 to 2024, Bjarni became prime minister again on 9 April 2024. Eygló Harðardóttir (born 12 December 1972) is an Icelandic politician and former cabinet member. She served as Iceland's Minister of Social Affairs and Housing from 2013 to 2017. Ásmundur Einar Daðason (born 29 October 1982) is an Icelandic politician. He served as a member of the Althing for the Northwest Constituency from 2009 to 2016, initially representing the Left-Green Movement (VG) and later the centrist Progressive Party. After a hiatus, he returned to the Althing in 2017. Additionally, he has held leadership positions within the organization Heimssyn, which advocates against Iceland's membership in the EU. On 30 November 2017 he assumed the role of Minister of Social Affairs and Equality. On 28 November 2021 he was appointed Minister of Education and Children. Seltjarnarnes () is a town and municipality in the Capital Region of Iceland. The municipality is located on a peninsula, bordered only by Reykjavík to the east.
