Iceland was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1989 with the song "", written by Valgeir Guðjónsson, and performed by Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson. The Icelandic participating broadcaster, (RÚV), selected its entry through . Before Eurovision (RÚV) held the national final on 30 March 1989 at its studios in Reykjavík, hosted by Jónas R. Jónsson. Five songs competed, which were all shown as pre-recorded video clips, and the winner was chosen by the votes of eight regional juries. At Eurovision Ágúst performed 20th on the night of the contest, held in Lausanne, Switzerland, following Greece and preceding Germany. Iceland did not manage to receive any points from all countries, placing 22nd (last) of 22 competing countries. The Icelandic jury awarded its 12 points to Cyprus. Ríkisútvarpið (, ; abbr. RÚV ) is Iceland's national public broadcasting, public-service broadcasting organization. Founded in 1930, it operates from studios in the country's capital, Reykjavík, as well as regional centres around the country. RÚV operates an Online newspaper, online news service, which is the fourth most visited website in Iceland. In 2016, 88% of Icelanders consumed RÚV content every week. Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson
Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson (born 26 August 1969) is an Icelandic singer and producer. He is the lead singer of the bands GusGus, Nýdönsk, and Esja. Biography Daníel has been part of the local and international music scene since he started his career with the Icelandic pop group Nýdönsk in 1987. In 1989, he participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1989 for Iceland with the song "Það sem enginn sér". He finished in 22nd place, scoring no points. After releasing 5 albums with Nýdönsk, he produced an album with the electronic rock group Bubbleflies. He then branched out into acting in the National and Municipal theatres, playing roles in West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar (Pontius Pilate), and Stone Free. Film directors Arni and Kinski approached him to play a lead role in their short film Nautn. During production, Daníel founded GusGus in 1995 with Kinski. The Eurovision Song Contest 1989 was the 34th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 6 May 1989 in the in Lausanne, Switzerland. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (TSR) on behalf of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR), and presented by Jacques Deschenaux and Lolita Morena, the contest was held in Switzerland following the country's victory at the with the song "" by Céline Dion. Twenty-two countries participated in the contest, with returning after a one-year absence. Björgvin Helgi Halldórsson (alternate names: Bo Halldórsson, Björgvin Halldórsson or Bo Hall) (born 16 April 1951) is an Icelandic pop singer from Hafnarfjörður. He represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1995 with the song '' Núna'' (English: Now), ranked in 15th place with 31 points. Björgvin performed with Sigrún Hjálmtýsdóttir, amongst others, and released several solo albums. Björgvin took part in several TV shows.
