The Überetsch (; ) is a hilly section of the Etschtal in South Tyrol, northern Italy. It lies south-west of Bolzano and is a known tourist destination, famous for its wines, castles and lakes (Kalterer See, Montiggler Seen). Ãœberetsch-Unterland
Ãœberetsch-Unterland ( ; ) is a district (; ) in the southern part of the Italy, Italian province of South Tyrol. It comprises the valley of the Adige river from Bolzano in the north to Salorno in the south. Overview The hilly Ãœberetsch region, i.e. the municipal areas of Eppan and Kaltern, forms the northwestern part of the district, while the larger South Tyrolean Unterland, Unterland stretches down the Adige to the border with the Trentino province. The district also comprises the municipalities of Andrian, South Tyrol, Andrian and Terlan north of Ãœberetsch. During the premodern period, the whole area was, ecclesiastically speaking, part of the diocese of Trent forming its so-called ''Deutscher Anteil'' due to the predominantly German-speaking population. Main economic factors are viticulture along the South Tyrolean Wine Route from Terlan to Salorno, fruit growing and tourism. Ãœberetsch Railway
The Ãœberetsch Railway (; ) connected Bolzano with the Mendel Funicular. This line was part of a rail sightseeing tour around the Mendelpass. The tour was made up of five railway lines and was often used by tourists. Track Just after the station of Bolzano the track branched off from the Brennerbahn and ran along the Eisack river. The line crossed the Talfer river and after two small stations (Ponte Roma and Ponte Resia) the line became split: one track proceeded to Meran and further to the Vinschgerbahn and one track branched away leftwards toward the low mountain range plateau of Ãœberetsch. The South Tyrolean Unterland () or Bozen Unterland (''Bozner Unterland''; ) is a section of the Etschtal valley stretching from the regional capital Bolzano (Bozen) down the Adige (Etsch) river to Tramin an der Weinstraße, Tramin and Salorno (Salurn). Bolzano
Bolzano ( ; ; or ) is the capital city of South Tyrol (officially the province of Bolzano), Northern Italy. With a population of 108,245, Bolzano is also by far the largest city in South Tyrol and the third largest in historical Tyrol. The greater metro area has about 250,000 inhabitants and is one of the urban centres within the Alps.
