ÚSTR Prize For Freedom, Democracy And Human Rights
The Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes ( or ÚSTR) is a Czech government agency and research institute. It was founded by the Czech government in 2007 and is situated at Siwiecova street, Prague-Žižkov (the street is named after Ryszard Siwiec). Its purpose is to gather, analyse and make accessible documents from the Nazi and Communist totalitarian regimes. The archives will also have documents from the former communist secret police, the StB or State Security. The institute is a founding member organisation of the Platform of European Memory and Conscience, and hosts its secretariat. Exhibitions The institute shows exhibitions from other countries and has developed its own touring exhibitions. Uranium Mine
Uranium mining is the process of extraction of uranium ore from the earth. Over 50,000 tons of uranium were produced in 2019. Kazakhstan, Canada, and Australia were the top three uranium producers, respectively, and together account for 68% of world production. Other countries producing more than 1,000 tons per year included Namibia, Niger, Russia, Uzbekistan and China. Nearly all of the world's mined uranium is used to power nuclear power plants. Memory Of Nation
Post Bellum is a Czech educational nonprofit organization based in Prague. The organization was formed in 2001 by a group of historians and journalists with the aim of increasing public knowledge of the 20th century history of the Czech Republic and neighboring countries, especially among younger generations. Post Bellum has collected thousands of witness accounts by conducting interviews with people who lived through significant periods in history as part of their documentation project, ''Stories of the 20th Century'', and for their online archive, ''Memory of Nations''. The Czech News Agency (), abbreviated to ČTK, is a national public service news agency in the Czech Republic. It provides its services in Czech and English. Czech Radio (, ČRo) is the public radio broadcaster of the Czech Republic operating continuously since 1923. It is the oldest national radio broadcaster in continental Europe and the second-oldest in Europe after the BBC. Daniel Herman (born 28 April 1963) is a Czech politician who served as the Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic in Bohuslav Sobotka's Cabinet from 2014 to 2017. He was born in České Budějovice. Jiří Pernes
Jiří Pernes (4 July 1948 – 21 May 2025) was a Czech historian. Life and career From 1984 to 1990, he was the director of the Historical Museum in Slavkov u Brna (Austerlitz), and from 1990 to 1992, he was director of the Moravské zemské muzeum in Brno. In 2010, he was dismissed from his position as director of the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes after allegations that he had plagiarized large portions of his 1997 book about Emanuel Moravec from another person's doctoral dissertation.
