Özlem Becerikli
Özlem Becerikli (born March 21, 1980, in Balıkesir, Turkey) is a Turkish powerlifter of class PO competing in the -56 kg division, and a Paralympian. She is a member of the Kocaeli Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kağıtspor, where she is coached by Şule Şahbaz. Career history Becerikli took the bronze medal in the -52 kg division at the 2010 IPC Powerlifting World Championships held in Kuala Lumpur, Malesia. Özlem was the winner of another bronze medal taken at the Fazza International Powerlifting Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in 2010. In 2011, she became bronze medalist at the Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia. Balıkesir () is a city in Turkey and is the capital city of Balıkesir Province. Balıkesir is located in the Marmara region of Turkey and has a population of 338,936. Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. As in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, it involves the athlete attempting a maximal weight single-lift effort of a barbell loaded with weight plates. Powerlifting evolved from a sport known as "odd lifts", which followed the same three-attempt format but used a wider variety of events, akin to strongman competition. Eventually odd lifts became standardized to the current three.
