Öster-Malma Castle
Öster-Malma Castle is a Baroque-style manor house at Nyköping Municipality in Södermanland, Sweden. It is situated on the shores of Lake Malmasjön. History Öster Malma was built in 1668 according to drawings by Jean De la Vallée (1624-1696) during the ownership of Wilhelm Böös Drakenhielm (1624-1676) and Anna Maria Silfverstierna (1643–1697). Drakenhielm was a royal Chamberlain and Chief Customs Officer who also owned the estates Hanstavik and Stjärnholm in Södermanland. Öster-Malma remained owned by members of the Drakenhielm family until 1738. From 1900, the main building was renovated. After major refurbishment, Öster Malma hotel, restaurant & conference was inaugurated in 2003. The castle has a surrounding wildlife park, which is open every month of the year except for September and is used as a nature preserve as well as an educational park. Nyköping Municipality
Nyköping Municipality () is a municipalities of Sweden, municipality in Södermanland County in southeast Sweden. Its seat is located in the city status in Sweden, city of Nyköping, which is containing a majority of the residents. Its southern tip in the district of Tunaberg is the southernmost point of mainland Svealand, one of the three original crowns forming Sweden. Nyköping is the administrative capital of Södermanland and hosts both the governors' residence and the regional council. The municipality was created in 1971 with the amalgamation of the ''City of Nyköping'' and a great number of other municipalities. Södermanland ( ), locally Sörmland, sometimes referred to under its Latinisation of names, Latinized form Sudermannia or Sudermania, is a Provinces of Sweden, historical province (or ) on the south eastern coast of Sweden. It borders Östergötland, Närke, Västmanland and Uppland. It is also bounded by lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea. Södermanland means "(The) Land of the Southern Men", where the "southern men" () were the people living south of Uppland. Jean De La Vallée
Jean de la Vallée ( – 12 March 1696) was a Swedish architect. Biography Born in France, he was the son of architect Simon de la Vallée (–1642). He made early trips in France and Italy where he studied the new baroque forms of architecture. In 1637, he came to Sweden with his father Simon who was killed by a Swedish nobleman in 1642. The father had started the planning of the House of Knights in Stockholm, and in 1660 his son finished his father's work. Prior to this, Jean de la Vallée had planned two major churches in central Stockholm, Katarina kyrka in 1656 and Hedvig Eleonora Church in 1658. In 1646, he received a royal scholarship for three years and began an international trip to study architecture. The journey went over the Netherlands to Paris where he arrived in August 1646.
