Örlygur Hnefill Örlygsson
Örlygur Hnefill Örlygsson (born 23 October 1983), known professionally as Orly Orlyson, is an Icelandic filmmaker, entrepreneur, hotelier, founder of The Exploration Museum and former President of the HúsavÃk town council. In 2018, Örlygur was selected by the United States Department of State and the German Marshall Fund to represent Iceland in the YTILI program. That same year, he was awarded by JCI as one of Ten Outstanding Young Persons in Iceland for his various entrepreneurial projects, most notably for founding The Exploration Museum, and for co-founding the Leif Erikson Awards. Political career From 2007 to 2009, Örlygur served as the parliamentary assistant to Einar Már Sigurðarson, member of Parliament for Northeast Constituency. HúsavÃk
HúsavÃk () is a town in Norðurþing municipality on the northeast coast of Iceland on the shores of Skjálfandi bay with 2,485 inhabitants. The most famous landmark of the town is the wooden church HúsavÃkurkirkja, built in 1907. HúsavÃk is served by HúsavÃk Airport. A town council, city council or municipal council is a form of local government for small municipalities. Usage of the term varies under different jurisdictions. The Astronaut Monument
The Astronaut Monument is a monument commemorating the training of Apollo program, Apollo Astronaut, astronauts in northern Iceland in 1965 and 1967. It is located outside the Exploration Museum in HúsavÃk, and contains the names of 32 Apollo astronauts who were sent to Iceland for training in geology for crewed lunar missions. Fourteen of the trainee astronauts later flew to the Moon, and seven of those conducted geology work on the lunar surface. The monument includes the names of the astronauts, the American and Icelandic flags, the insignia of the Apollo program, and features two steel globes on top of two basalt columns to represent the Earth and the Moon. Askja () is an active volcano situated in a remote part of the central highlands of Iceland. The name Askja refers to a complex of nested calderas within the surrounding Dyngjufjöll mountains, which rise to , ''askja'' meaning ''box'' or ''caldera'' in Icelandic. Charlie Duke
Charles Moss Duke Jr. (born October 3, 1935) is an American former astronaut, United States Air Force (USAF) officer and test pilot, and young Earth creationist. As Lunar Module pilot of Apollo 16 in 1972, he became the tenth and youngest person to walk on the Moon, at age 36 years and 201 days. Duke remains the youngest person to walk on the Moon. He is one of four surviving Moon walkers, along with David Scott, Buzz Aldrin and Harrison Schmitt. William Alison Anders (17 October 1933 – 7 June 2024) was an American United States Air Force (USAF) major general, electrical engineer, nuclear engineer, NASA astronaut, and businessman. In December 1968, he was a member of the crew of Apollo 8, the first three people to leave low-Earth orbit and travel to the Moon. Harrison Hagan "Jack" Schmitt (born July 3, 1935) is an American geologist, former NASA astronaut, university professor, former U.S. senator from New Mexico. He is the most recent living person—and only person without a background in military aviation—to have walked on the Moon. Russell Louis "Rusty" Schweickart (also Schweikart; born October 25, 1935) is an American aeronautical engineer, and a former NASA astronaut, research scientist, U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, as well as a former business executive and government executive. Schweickart was selected in 1963 for NASA's third astronaut group.
