Ökumenischer Kirchentag 2021
The Ökumenischer Kirchentag 2021 (Ecumenical Church Assembly) was the third ecumenical convention of lay Christians of different denominations in Germany. It was held in Frankfurt, Hesse from 13 to 16 May 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event happened mostly digitally, with only a few events actually taking place with live audience in Frankfurt. History The first Ökumenischer Kirchentag was held as a national ecumenical event, in the spirit of the Protestant Kirchentag and the Catholic Katholikentag, both a national convention of lay Christians in Germany held every other year, alternating. The first ecumenical Kirchentag was held in Berlin in 2003. The was in Munich in 2010. Im November 2011, a synod of the Protestant Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN) declared to the Deutscher Evangelischer Kirchentag (DEKT) to be willing to host a Kirchentag in Frankfurt in 2021. Ecumenism
Ecumenism ( ; alternatively spelled oecumenism)also called interdenominationalism, or ecumenicalismis the concept and principle that Christians who belong to different Christian denominations should work together to develop closer relationships among their churches and promote Christian unity. The adjective ''ecumenical'' is thus applied to any non-denominational or inter-denominational initiative which encourages greater cooperation and union among Christian denominations and Church (congregation), churches. Ecumenical dialogue is a central feature of contemporary ecumenism. Ascension Day
The Feast of the Ascension of Jesus Christ (also called the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, Ascension Day, Ascension Thursday, or sometimes Holy Thursday) commemorates the Christian belief of the bodily Ascension of Jesus into Heaven. It is one of the ecumenical (shared by multiple denominations) feasts of Christian churches, ranking with the feasts of the Passion and Pentecost. Peter Reulein
Peter Reulein (born 1966) is a German composer, organ improviser, academic teacher and church musician, from 2000 at the church Liebfrauen in Frankfurt am Main. In 2016 he composed for the Catholic Diocese of Limburg the Franciscan oratorio ''Laudato si'''. Career Born in Frankfurt am Main, Reulein studied Catholic church music at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main with Wolfgang Schäfer and Uwe Gronostay. After extended studies of organ improvisation with Daniel Roth in Paris, he won several national and international competitions in this field, for example in 1993 the competition of Belgian radio and the second prize and the public's prize at the Festival Europäische Kirchenmusik in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Helmut Schlegel
Helmut Alfons Schlegel (born 15 May 1943) is a German Franciscan Catholic priest, meditation instructor, author, librettist and songwriter. He is known for writing new spiritual songs ( Neues Geistliches Lied), set to music by various composers. Career Born Helmut Alfons Schlegel in Riedlingen, he grew up on his parents' farm in Upper Swabia and attended boarding schools of the Franciscans in Riedlingen and in Rottweil. He felt a connection to Francis of Assisi and joined the Franciscan Order. Then he studied philosophy and theology in Monastery Gorheim in Sigmaringen, Monastery Frauenberg in Fulda and Munich and was ordained priest in 1969 in Fulda. Eugen Eckert (born 1954) is a German social worker, minister, singer-songwriter and academic teacher. He is known for his lyrics for new spiritual songs (Neues Geistliches Lied), and his oratorios and musical plays. Career Born in Frankfurt am Main, Eckert first worked as a social worker. He studied from 1977 Protestant theology, pedagogic psychology and Slavic languages at the Frankfurt University and the Mainz University. In 1990 he became the minister of the Protestant parish of Offenbach-Lauterborn. (''One'' or ''United'') is an oratorio written on a commission from the Ökumenischer Kirchentag 2021 in Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany, the third ecumenical convention of lay Christians of different denominations in Germany. The text was written jointly by the Protestant pastor Eugen Eckert and the Catholic Franciscan Helmut Schlegel. The music of many genres was composed by Peter Reulein for the more traditional parts and by Bernhard Kießig for jazz and pop elements. The work is subtitled ''Ökumenisches Oratorium in vier Bildern für Solisten, Chor, Orchester und Band'' (Ecumenical Oratorio in four scenes for soloists, choir, orchestra and band). The oratorio was published in 2021 by the Dehm Verlag. The premiere, planned to be in a football arena with audience participation, had to happen without audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Gospel of Mark is the second of the four canonical Gospels and one of the three synoptic Gospels, synoptic Gospels.
