The 2002 to 2013 version of the World Heavyweight Championship was a men's professional wrestling world heavyweight championship created and promoted by the American promotion WWE. It was the second world championship to be created by the company, after their original world title, the WWE Championship (1963). The previous number two and three American promotions, World Championship Wrestling and Extreme Championship Wrestling, had folded earlier in 2001, leaving only one national wrestling company. History Formation The idea of the XWF was generated when Kevin Harrington (entrepreneur), Kevin Harrington pitched the idea of replacing the then-AOL Time Warner owned World Championship Wrestling, which was just purchased by rival competitor the World Wrestling Entertainment, World Wrestling Federation. Lucha De Apuestas
''Lucha libre'' (, meaning "freestyle wrestling" or literally translated as "free fight") is the term for the style of professional wrestling originating in Mexico. Since its introduction to Mexico in the early 20th century, it has developed into a unique form of the genre, characterized by colorful masks, rapid sequences of holds and maneuvers, and "high-flying" aerial techniques, some of which have been adopted by wrestlers in the United States, Japan, and elsewhere. The wearing of masks has developed special significance, and matches are sometimes contested in which the loser must permanently remove his mask, which is a wager with a high degree of weight attached. Tag team wrestling is especially prevalent in ''lucha libre'', particularly matches with three-member teams, called ''trios''. Although in English the term specifically refers to the Mexican style of theatrical professional wrestling, in Mexico (and certain other Spanish-speaking territories) it can refer to ot ...

WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship
The WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship was a title created in 2001 just prior to World Championship Wrestling (WCW) being sold to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE). History The WCW Cruiserweight Championship and the matches contested for that title had long been a unique feature on WCW programming. The title was retired when on March 26, 2001 WCW's assets were sold to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE). Nearly 15 years after this title was retired, WWE had planned to revive the cruiserweight tag team championship to compliment its own singles championship, according to former WWE wrestler Gentleman Jack Gallagher, under its own banner for the Raw brand, but it never materialized. Another attempt for the cruiserweight tag team championship revival was planned in 2018 under the 205 L ...
